Today we’d like to introduce you to Nico Duarte.
Nico, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Los Angeles. I started my creative journey with a love of making music, all while working several different jobs out of high school to pay the bills. While working with artists in a recording studio as a second job, I started building a curiosity for visual production due to other artists in the studio being unhappy with music videos that were being produced for their songs. I would then use a friend’s basic DSLR camera to practice filming and editing hands-on by filming music videos for local artists for free. That lead to my first clients being private cannabis events, who would request for music video style promotional videos of their events.
This allowed me to meet several people from all different business backgrounds whether it be recording artists or business owners. With consistency & the passion to want to learn as well as push creative boundaries. I was able to quit my corporate job as a customer service rep to start my own Video Production business in which I specialize in directing, filming & editing anything from short films, music videos, commercials & television-style videos. I now also work as camera op & director of photography for network television as well in hopes to one day be able to direct bigger budget network shows & films, along with continuing to direct music videos.
Has it been a smooth road?
When I first began this journey, it was as bumpy as a road can get. From mental battles of low confidence to the lows of life’s lessons, it was a test of the passion and drive you must have and keep when investing in your future. I have had several examples in life of the consequences of not wanting more for yourself & for your family’s future, and being content with settling. I have always kept in mind that I do not only intent to succeed for myself but to set the example for those around me who have never been given an example of this. The passion for what I do and who I do it for is what allows the struggles to turn to strengths.
