Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicky Corbett.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicky. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was in my early twenties I ran into some complicated health challenges. I was playing in a band with a drummer and he said you have to try acupuncture. That’s how it all started. I became a patient, then an employee of that Doctor of Chinese Medicine, then I went to school and became a licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist.
While in acupuncture school, I became interested in Reiki energy work and was initiated by a teacher of mine through the 3 levels of Reiki training. Now, as a Reiki Master, I can initiate others to this work.
Additionally, I have been a student of yoga for 35 years. After practicing on my own and in classes, I became certified to teach in 2017.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been smooth for the most part… I feel like I found a calling within a calling within a calling.
Sometimes the struggle was balancing my work life with my family life (I have two teenage boys) and my creative interests and work – I have been a professional musician and songwriter since I was 17.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I think the thing that makes my business unique is the integration of whole body health. My experience with yoga and Reiki inform and enhance my acupuncture skills and make my approach creative and outside the box. I specialize in treating gynecology, infertility, immune issues/allergies, and emotional conditions such as anxiety and depression. Of course, I treat everything else as well.
I think what sets me apart as a practitioner is my ability to be present and to assist the patient on their journey back to health. Because I am a creative type and a musician, I am able to understand how to help patients who’s lives don’t fit into neat little black and white boxes. I understand the creative personality, the creative life and it’s challenges because I have lived it. I can bring insight and awareness and tools to these clients to help them find a foundation within the framework of their unpredictable and often chaotic lives.
I encourage and teach individualized nutrition for each client as well as lifestyle changes, meditation, yoga poses and self-work.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a great city to practice any kind of health service. The people are open-minded and generally seeking good information and assistance.
