Meet Nicky Cano of @alm0ndmilf Depop Shop in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicky Cano.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My story is one I could’ve only ever dreamed of! eight year old me is definitely happy with the way things have turned out. I’ve found myself to be a jack of many trades, above all though, I’m an actor. After years of musical theatre camp and watching Broadway musicals on youtube to cope with the fact that I lived in a small suburban town in south Florida, I decided to go to a conservatory in New York to pursue acting. I ended up dropping out after two months because it simply wasn’t right for me. I went back home and attended my local community college and found myself being the under study for all the plays in my theatre program. Not the best time for me. I decided the next semester I was going to move to the biggest city near me, Miami, to attend drama school at FIU.

That summer I took a break from classes and went to go visit my brother who lives in LA as a stylist. Just for a little fun summer getaway. I had no idea 2 weeks into the trip I’d be offered a modeling contract at a small little boutique agency, Lemon Lime. I took the offer and ran with it. After signing the contract and moving to Hollywood, that’s when my small business on Depop, @alm0ndmilf, started to take off. Me and my online best friend, Lain, that I met through Depop DM’s, realized we moved to LA around the same time, met up at a Machine Girl concert, and have been inseparable since. We thrift, sketch up designs for our brand, ship out, and package all of our Depop things together. Shoutout Depop for this friendship love story! Since all that happened I’ve been in LA running around going to auditions and designing my own clothes, while also taking makeup appointments because I do that too! I’m pretty happy with where I’m at right now and am so excited to reach all the goals I have for myself in the future.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m so lucky to have had such a smooth road since being here. I feel very accepted here In LA. Way more than I ever did living in a small town in Florida. I’ve found queer spaces and friends that I’m free to be myself with. There are so many other lesbians here too it makes me so happy! I feel like I’m living in the L word (best show of all time by the way)!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about @alm0ndmilf Depop Shop – what should we know?
I own a Depop Shop called @alm0ndmilf. I sell vintage there along with a bunch of other fun things I make myself! It varies from customized backpacks (hello kitty themed ones are my favorite to make) to originally designed t-shirts that I just started! The clothing on my shop is mostly 90s, Y2K era themed clothes. Some of my favorite brands that are currently in my shop are Baby Phat, No Boundaries, Tripp NYC, David and Goliath, and many more!

Seeing my small business blossom before my eyes have been amazing for me. Every day I’m thinking of ways to better my shop. What I’m most proud of is all the thought I put into my photos to post. I style all my pieces to fit a specific theme for each drop of clothing and then do some crazy makeup to fit the style of what I’m going for. I think it’s fun for customers to see a fun background, makeup, and styling for clothes because it can inspire them to do something cool with the item they want to buy.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I definitely have to give credit to my close friend Carianne (best photographer ever @peggyshootsfilm hit her up!) for motivating me to take my makeup more seriously. After many pushes, I finally made an Instagram account dedicated to just my makeup and have been booking appointments since then! We work together all the time now. I’ll do the makeup for someone who she’s taking photos of for, whether it be for an album cover, headshots, or just for fun! Weird coincidence but she’s actually from the same small town in Florida as me and that’s where we met! I did her makeup once and then she took pictures of me, which was the first-ever photoshoot I did. We happened to move to LA around the same time and have been close ever since.

My biggest supporter though is definitely my best friend Alejandro. I met him in my hometown in Florida. He does it all! He does graphic design, makes clothes, has the perfect taste in music, all while being my biggest cheerleader! Coolest cat I know, honestly. I think he believes in me more than I believe in myself sometimes! I’m so lucky.
