Meet Neto Velasco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neto Velasco.

Hi Neto, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hola Hola! I’m Neto Velasco and I’m a photographer and graphic designer from Mexico living in Los Angeles California. I moved from Mexico seven years ago. I opened my own photo studio in the arts district in 2021. I mainly shoot music band photography and portraits at the studio. I have been a professional photographer for over 15 years. When I’m not at the studio, I’m doing street photography, concert photography and skateboarding photography. I have been launching self-published zines with my street photography work, I’m currently designing volume 3. I self-published a photo book with street photography I shot in New york city and I am starting a photo club with headquarters in my photo studio, providing other photographers with free workshops, and photo walks around the city of Los Angeles. I am a true believer of community and want to create a nice community of photographers where we share our projects and talents. Photo club is named after my photo studio “La Serpiente Photo Club”. You can find my work at: www.netovelasco.com, my zines and books and merch at: www.laserpientephotoclub.com. I also have two photography podcasts, one in English and one in Spanish in which I interview photographers to learn more about their creative process and to show the world how other professionals work. Both my podcasts can be found in Spotify and all podcast platforms. www.coffeewithphotographers.com and www.cafeconfotografos.com.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Moving from Mexico to Los Angeles seven years ago was like starting from scratch, with no friends and no one in the city. Getting new clients and trying to get my name out there, and dealing with immigration was extremely stressful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer, I love teaching photography and love shooting music photography, one thing that sets me apart is that I’m multidisciplinary. I not only do photography but also graphic design, it’s very easy for me to publish my own photo work and create creative campaigns around my photos. I shoot what I love and what I’m curious about in life, that’s why I stick with music photography, skateboarding photography and portraits.
