Meet Neal and Haydee Scott of Nealie’s Skillet in Valencia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neal and Haydee Scott.

Neal and Haydee, please share your story with us.
Neal’s lifelong dream has been to be a restaurant owner. Working all his life for several different restaurants he was able to gain experience in every aspect of the business. We moved to Valencia almost 10 years ago to establish a strong environment for our children. One year ago, we began our journey of looking for a restaurant location. We knew we wanted to stay close to home and to where our kids go to school. An opportunity came up to be 2 blocks from our house and we quickly jumped on it.

We opened up Nealie’s Skillet on January 1 2016.

My background is in Retail and Accounting and I bring the perfect balance to the restaurant being able to handle all the back ends of it.

We want to establish a strong restaurant in our community that we are a part of.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all. We still struggle with negative reviews. We are 100% hands on and you can always find one of us at the restaurant and we are constantly talking to our guest so when we read bad reviews it hurts us because they could have communicated with us in person and we would gladly make it better for our guest.

We never want anyone paying for something they didn’t enjoy.

Finding the balance of being a restaurant owner, having children, and making sure your marriage doesn’t fall apart is also very challenging. This year we have taken very little time off. We are working on building staff that will be able to run the restaurant while we are not there. We are not quite there yet but we will be soon.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nealie’s Skillet – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Nealie’s Skillet is a breakfast/ lunch restaurant. We don’t really specialize in one type of food. We have a variety of items. Neal is from NY and Haydee is from LA so they bring a little of their backgrounds to the menu.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Valencia is all about families. I don’t see myself raising our kids in another city, The town is not too big and it takes us 5 minutes to get from point A to point B. The schools are great and the love we have received from all of our local friends has really warmed our hearts.
