Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalee Pangrazio.
Natalee, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started my art business from my home after having been a preschool teacher for several years. The subject I enjoyed teaching the most was art. It gave me so much joy to watch the kid’s sweet faces light up when they discovered that two circles and two lines made a horse head etc. I knew this would be a lifelong pursuit of showing people that they don’t need to be born with creativity or artistic talent, they can develop it through skill. What a satisfying thing when you didn’t think you were capable of creating art, but indeed you are! It has now been nearly nine years of drawing out the inner artist in my students, creating custom commission pieces and murals, face painting and mobile painting parties. I’m so delighted to be doing this for a living, it is a dream come true.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been easy, when you work for yourself, and you are a single Mom, nobody says it will be easy and it never is. However, the joy that accompanies what I do makes it feel like less of a struggle and is my default of joy through the hard times. I started with two students in my living room, and it took several years of consistency to build up clientele. When I left the state of CO though, I had up to 20 people painting in my living room on a consistent basis.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The main portion of my business is mobile painting parties. I provide all the art materials such as easels, aprons, canvas, brushes, etc., and artists can select from a huge array of sample paintings to be guided in, or I can create a custom one for them. I provide the setup and tear down and the step by step tutorial, so it is really like a party in a package, I take care of the main event and guests leave with the best and most memorable favor ever! What sets me apart from other paint party companies is my more detailed paintings. I don’t do just simple pieces, I put in challenge and love to teach technique so that my artists have skills they can use time and time again should they wish to continue or start painting more regularly. I love every session to be therapeutic, full of value, and I check to make sure each person is happy with the progress of their painting and having positive feelings about their work.
For my custom commission pieces, I am known for my bright, happy floral paintings. I have recently been doing quite a few zoom backdrops since our world needs more happy spaces on Zoom right now. I have also transitioned with the times into Virtual Paint parties, which has been an incredible way to meet people from all over the country.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! This is not only the land of opportunity but our cities are cities of opportunity. It takes grit and determination, but if you are passionate about what you do, you can pivot, be flexible and adaptable and find something that works for you that fulfills your creative potential. I would encourage all entrepreneurs to not limit yourself because of fear! I would say our city could help its entrepreneurs by making stipulations to allow certain businesses to be run from homes.
