Today we’d like to introduce you to Nasser Sobh.

Nasser, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Acti-Kare of Orange is a family own non-medical in-home care agency. Located in the heart of Orange County, the City of Orange, We proudly serve families in need of home care assistance in Orange County, CA.

Acti-Kare has been in business since 2007 and continues to provide the highest quality of non-medical in-home care at an affordable price. Our wonderful staff and caregivers are managed and trained by our exceptional team of managers that have experienced knowledge in the home care field. Our caregivers are experienced, trained and certified in basic care as well Alzheimer’s and Dementia and people with special needs.

Our mission is to provide affordable quality non-medical in-home care to our clients. We are committed to providing outstanding non-medical in-home care services that will consistently exceeding our client’s expectations.

Our goal is to become L.A. County’s premier provider of non-medical In-home care. By living and expressing our culture of Acti-Vate that offers quality of life focus with a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, we hope to achieve our goal.

Our culture of Acti-Vate stands on three pillars; Mind, Body and Spirit. We engage with elderly clients to help them improve on their cognitive skills and increase mobility to their body with actives such as indoor gardening, living room dancing, which then improves on their overall wellbeing and elevate their spirit to a positive tone.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth ride since staring this business. Along the way there has some growing pains and struggles that made me second guess starting into this business in the first. Place. When I first though about getting into this business I didn’t know anything about the Non-Medical Homecare business but I read from several articles online that it’s a growing business and a growing market and a good business to get into since it’s a cash business. So, I inquired about a franchise thinking they franchise company would provide me with the training, tools and resources available to run a success business. I remember when I was inquiring about franchises I came across Acti-Kare. The Franchise Sales Manager painted this idea about making lots of money and how this type of business works.

However, in hindsight he never provided me with actual statistics, business reports or market analysis for the territory I wanted. Although he answered my basic questions he did most of the talking and thinking about it now it was mostly bragging about his company. When asked if I could speak to local franchisee is he was hesitant to say yes. Then he said he would put me in touch with existing franchisee. Well he put me in touch with a franchisee in Tampa, Florida who was making $30k a month in revenue, but nobody from Southern California. Not wanting to step on any toes and blow the deal I didn’t want to reach out to the local franchisees myself. So being optimistic and thinking well this is a growing franchisee and this guy in Tampa, FL is making a killing can too. What a mistake.

Once I signed and went to Tampa on my own dime for a waste of time “training” I was on my own. I didn’t receive any help or support from the Franchise. Their marking plan was not working and I soon realized that since their Head Quarter is in Tampa, FL and only really focused their business that region, they didn’t understand the Southern California Market. I was shocked to read that Southern California is over saturated with Non-Medical and Medical Home Care agencies. What wasn’t explained to me until after I signed was the dynamics of this business.

What shocked me even more was when I was told by the Operation Manager that I would not expect to retain any clients from anywhere between 6 to 9 months.

Something they never told me in the beginning, none of it. I struggled so much and I still struggles. Business is never stable. The Marketing Strategy of visiting Skilled Nursing Homes and online leads isn’t working in a market that is over saturated with competition. So many agencies pay for online leads so once a user inquires about home care assistance their information is sent to dozens of agencies in or near the zip code provided. The user is then flooded with calls so naturally they stop answering their phone. I quickly learned that the success of this business is networking and having a creating a personal referral source. I would not recommend to get into this type of business nor deal with a franchise.

Acti-Kare – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Acti-Kare provides Non-Medical In-Home Care to assist individuals or families with you day to day activities. We provide In-Home Care to Elderly, Individuals with Disabilities and Childcare.

Although we provide care to a few different categories of markets our core business is elderly care assistance.

What separates Acti-Kare from the competition is our culture of Acti-Vate. Acti-Vate is an innovative wellness and anti-fatigue program created by healthcare professionals exclusively for Acti-Kare. Our senior citizen companion program and care services encourage mental and physical well-being through active living.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I personally define business success as the growth of your company. Key performance indicators are; financially, physically and culturally.

Financially are you making money? and how are you managing the money?

Physically have you adjusted for growth or shrink? How fast are you growing? What is driving your growth?

Culturally, does the company provide a positive influence on employees, customers and competitors?
