Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Oristaglio.
Nancy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It really started almost 23 years ago on Valentine’s Day. I’d traveled out of town to see my sister. My husband Bob and I planned to go to dinner together when I got home. But, Bob decided to go to the movies while he was waiting for me to arrive and sometime during “Legends of the Fall,” he had a massive heart attack and died. My children and I were thrown into an abyss of grief and shock and I lived breath to breath during those dark days. And then, though he had died and I felt that part of me had died with him, something within me was born – or perhaps resurrected – a forgotten dream and the conviction of the reason I’m on the planet; my life’s purpose. That dream came true!
I’m a professional coach and counselor with 19 years of experience. I’m also a speaker, author and newspaper columnist and have written numerous articles about living a healthier, happier and more successful life. I’ve worked with many and diverse people and groups and have facilitated workshops and presentations. In addition, I’ve had many years of experience in serving leadership positions and of training others to serve. I was elected several times by my professional colleagues to represent them at the national level and to be their Regional Director, liaison and leadership trainer. I’ve also served many years on the Board of Trustees of a non-profit foundation in southern California that gives grants to support wellness. I hold Bachelors and Masters degrees and worked in Education Administration for several years.
The slogan for my Life Coaching business is “Make Your Life a Love Story.” What this means is that every aspect of our lives – our life stories – can be transformed into a life that we love; a love story. For permanent change, we must do the inner work of changing our minds and hearts, perceptions and beliefs. I have traveled this road and know its terrain, and out of my experience, have created the tools that help in facilitating this. This journey may sound daunting but it is actually an enjoyable adventure!
Has it been a smooth road?
The road of transformation is “the road less traveled” that Robert Frost wrote about in his poem of the same name. And it can be bumpy ground! When I embarked on my own road less traveled, I didn’t know anyone who knew how to meditate, anyone who could teach me how to take back my mind from the voice in the head, anyone who could coach me in managing my energy in a conscious way. But, I was deeply motivated to create a happier life and was determined to do it.
The nature of the road less traveled is that you are creating your own path, out of your own inner resources. The road to excellence in any profession requires persistence, patience and practice. These are the foundation of my life and of my business.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Nancy Oristaglio, Coach and Counselor – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in three major areas that will lead the client to create a happy “love story” out of their life stories. These three major areas are mindfulness meditation, taking back the mind from the voice in the head and learning how to manage personal energy. Learning these is the foundation for good health, loving relationships, creativity and abundant living.
My expertise in these areas set us apart from life coaching and counseling as it is usually practiced, for it requires a coach who has achieved excellence in all these areas in her own life. I’ve developed this expertise over many years.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love LA! And even now, after many years, I don’t take its beauty, culture and weather for granted. I’ve lived in Cleveland (great city and wonderful people, but terrible weather), Kansas City (same story) and Durham, North Carolina (same story). I feel very blessed to live here and enjoy all that it has to offer.
