Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Horne.
Hi Nancy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew up in NY state and went to college in Boston. I was moved from Boston to NYC to work for a new company in its first year – Nickelodeon. I continued to work in children’s television at Children’s Television Workshop (Sesame Street company) and other such companies for eight years. My late mother, Barbara and I started an accessories company in NY. I did the marketing and headed our sales team which sold her designs to Barneys, Bloomingdales, Nordstroms (nationwide), etc. Our mother/daughter success story was featured in Women’s Wear Daily, Glamour Magazine and Entrepreneur Women Magazine. After we closed our company, SkyLark, NY, I was hired to work on the film PHILADELPHIA by one of the executive producers. I remained his assistant on two more films, DEVIL ON A BLUE DRESS and THAT THING YOU DO. After working years back to back, I took a leave absence and spent time in Italy and it was there in a piazza in Verona, Italy that I realized I would never marry or have children if I remained working as an executive assistant in film. I returned to LA and resigned. And gratefully, today, I am married and I have a daughter who is a junior at Vassar College in NY!! I have owned my executive search firm for 22 years and specialize in architecture and interior design worldwide. I am proud to count some of the best firms in the world my clients. My work has afforded me the opportunity to have traveled to Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) several times for work and China to meet with for clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every time I changed careers, it was a challenge. Starting from scratch. But in reality, I was always using my best professional and personal skills and attributes that were applied in different industries. My best professional qualities rose to the top and that is where I sit today, working on projects, engaging with both clients and candidates, being helpful, changing both my client firms and candidates professional. trajectory. It is a very satisfying business for me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
