Meet Monique Loveless

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Loveless.

Monique, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio by my mother and grandmother, two very strong black women, so, I was a trailblazer at a very young age. I graduated high school early and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, for five years. In Atlanta, I studied Journalism and worked two jobs. Then in 2010, I moved to L.A, not for fashion (which I was already in) or acting or anything in the entertainment industry, but for a guy! In my heart, I knew I needed a fresh start, it was perfect timing.

Of course, the guy and I didn’t last long, but I wanted to get more into the fashion industry. So I applied and got accepted for an internship at Chic Little Devil (the largest Stylehouse on the West coast) which changed my life. I got to work with celebrities such as June Ambrose, Nicki Minaj, Joseph Cassel, Tinashe and more. This led me straight into freelance styling. Styling celebs for red carpets, music videos and editorial shoots.

After about eight years in the fashion industry, I knew there was more for me, so, I took a hosting class and fell in love. I was hungry, so right out of class I received the opportunity to be camera ops and a co-host for a small outlet on major red carpets. Now I get to do what I love as a host and blogger for some of the biggest digital media outlets.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all, obviously struggles are apart of life, especially when chasing your dreams.

When I first moved to LA, I struggled because it was not only a culture shock, but a huge financial difference. Especially coming from a small town or even Atlanta where things are a lot cheaper. I went through a very deep depression.

Then, not understanding all the things that go down in bigger cities, I ended up in a situation out of my control forcing me to start sleeping in my car for a while. This definitely was a low point but such a characteristic and spiritual builder.

When you know your life has a purpose you must keep hope alive. You’ll be challenged on the journey, but you realize how strong you truly are, making the struggles worth it.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a media host and blogger specializing in fashion and entertainment. My main focus right now is to keep paving my path, building my personal brand and working on my own talk show.

I am also proud to be from such a small town and trailblazing a future for myself that includes traveling, writing about my experiences, getting dressed up, being on  camera all while meeting and networking with people who inspire the whole world everyday.

I believe staying true to who I am, my values, not caring what people say or think and being super aware of myself have set me apart from most.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is THE city to be in if you’re wanting to be in any part of the entertainment industry!

If you’re just starting out, I would suggest visiting LA a few times and setting things up before you take the leap to move here. Maybe even have a following before coming here that would be a plus, to keep you motivated and focused because it can become very challenging at times when your walking the line of fulfilling your dreams and meeting your basic needs . I always say it’s a whole different beast but when you make it through it’s beautiful, fun and provides so many great opportunities.
