Meet Moniqua Plante of The Plante Life

Today we’d like to introduce you to Moniqua Plante.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been a working actor and a fashion fit model for the last twelve+ years—I’ve had years of experience unraveling and re-figuring my own relationship with food and learning to let go of the negative self-talk. I really do understand the ridiculous pressure we women put on ourselves to look a certain way or be a certain size.

I know what it’s like to feel totally out of touch with my body and uncomfortable in my own skin.

I tried every diet, calorie counted, ate low-fat, non-fat processed foods. I was addicted to cleanses and detoxes. I worked long hours, stayed out late and took care of everyone else around me. My cravings for sugar and salt were still out of control. And my idea of self-care was an occasional mani-pedi.

I managed to pull off the best acting performance to date—it looked like I could eat whatever I wanted and had it all together.

I ended up in complete adrenal exhaustion. I was sleep deprived, bloated, broken out, stressed and depressed, had total brain fog, my metabolism was slow, my digestion was slower—and I ended up with a stomach bug that lasted for two months! No joke. And after three rounds of kill-everything-inside-you antibiotics, I just got sicker.

I finally took matters into my own hands. I enlisted the help of a holistic health practitioner—and I got real with myself about how I was living my life and treating my body.

I got rid of my scale. I stopped dieting and depriving myself. I stopped using food to punish or reward myself. I learned to say ‘no’ and take care of my body—by taking time for myself, practicing real self-care, and eating real food. I started enjoying my calories instead of counting them. Slowly but surely, I learned to tune-in to my body and eat intuitively.

I was finally able to heal my body and my relationship to food—and I did it with real food and real self-care.

Since then, I earned my Holistic Health Coaching Certification through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and the Association of Drugless Practitioners.

And it has been my privilege to help so many women (and a few good men), get their groove on through real food and real self-care.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Growing any business can be hard! I’m still a working actor, so I have two careers that are very demanding. Fortunately, they meld together in a really fun and interesting way. And look, we’re all in the mud together. I’m human, I still F up and have crappy ass days. I still get off track with food and self-care. I’m far from perfect, and I don’t expect anyone else to be either. In fact, I tell perfectionism to eff off. There’s no such thing.

What I love most is helping my clients be the most perfectly imperfect version of themselves.

Please tell us about The Plante Life.

I wouldn’t change a thing! I think we are always exactly where we are supposed to be, whether it be good times or a struggle, in order to learn and grow and become the best versions of ourselves. I’ll be learning and changing, and my business will continue to grow and evolve with me—that’s exciting!
