Meet Monet Sathre

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monet Sathre.

Hi Monet, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story starts backstage as a Disneyland Cast Member in Entertainment as a Performer in parades and shows such as Fantasmic! I found myself scrolling through Facebook and Instagram mindlessly between shows and decided I needed to put my “downtime” to good use. So I taught myself to do multiple crochet stitches on YouTube and started making infinity scarves and followed with multiple accessories (scarves, headbands, beanies, and fingerless gloves). Everywhere I went people would ask me where they could get one. Before I knew it, friends started asking to purchase them and my business took off!

My favorite creations these days are my amigurumi animals. It all started with a cute giraffe I found on Pinterest and after lots of trial and error, I wrote my 1st amigurumi pattern. From Disney to Pokemon to custom look-alikes, I love challenging myself to create new animals to fit my clients’ needs. Each and every item I create is custom and have now started to sell the patterns! Whether it’s a baby shower, a holiday or a favorite character, these cute custom creations keep me busy!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
2020 was a challenging year as I found myself furloughed from Disney and missing performing. My Disney amigurumi creations really kept my spirits up and made getting through this year a little easier.

Crocheting not only helped me stay busy between shows but I am a busy mom of three kiddos (5, 2.5, 10 weeks). Crochet is my creative outlet and like therapy for me. I am able to unwind at the end of a crazy day with my crochet hook, yarn and a good Netflix show on TV!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have a Bachelor in Fine Arts, Dance and a Minor in Business from UC Irvine. I been a Disney Cast Member for almost ten years now and have performed in numerous shows such as Fantasmic, Red Car News Boys, Mickey and the Magical Map as well as parades such as Soundsational, Paint the Night, and A Christmas Fantasy to new a few.

I am also a Pilates Instructor here throughout Orange County. I fell in love with Pilates to help rehab my tendinitis injuries from dancing down Main Street, USA in character heels five days a week. Teaching Pilates lets me help rehab and train others to use their best bodies in life. I like to say “Pilates is for everybody and every body.”

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love that Orange County is so versatile and everything is within a little drive. With Disney in Anaheim, I live in Lake Forest, a nice quiet suburb, only 30 min away. You are close enough to drive to the city, yet be at the beach in an hour or less!
