Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Lee.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I am a self-taught photographer from Anhaeim Hills, CA. Originally a cello and piano player, I transitioned to photography to pursue another art form in order to stay positive and happy while pursuing law school.
Please tell us about your art.
I started to pursue photography in the beginning of 2017; taking advice from a friend of a couple of years. With my photos, I want people that look at them to feel that they should embrace the non-normative standards of the art world and focus on self-expression, especially with the creative portrait concepts that my portraits convey. I hope other people see photography as a beautiful artform instead of a money-making business.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
The biggest challenge is the idea of social media influencers. Since Instagram has created big careers for influencers nowadays, it is hard for artists, who have extremely good art, to spread their artwork around when others, who do not have as good art, gain recognition and set the “standards”.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
People can see my work through my Instagram page or my website. People can support other photographers by supporting their business, instead of asking to see photography as something that is easy to pursue.
