Meet Mitchell Binder of King Baby in Santa Monica & West Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitchell Binder.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In the 1970’s, when I was a teenager, I moved from Jackson, Mississippi to Los Angeles. It was when music reflected a spirit of idealism and new-found freedoms. Musical artists like Hendrix, Joplin and The Dead ruled the airwaves. “It was the ‘Summer of Love’ and my mind was officially blown.”

At 15, I became a jeweler’s apprentice and shortly thereafter began designing on my own. I soon made the right contacts and quickly became the ‘go to jeweler’ for Hollywood.

Officially launching King Baby in 2000, I’ve continued to raise the bar when it comes to design and hand-crafted quality. King Baby has flagship store locations in Santa Monica, Nashville, Caesars Palace Las Vegas, West Hollywood and in over 10 flagship stores in China. We continue to make our pieces in the USA and have become one of the few companies to export USA goods to China.

King Baby is designed for jewelry enthusiasts who appreciate value and artisan products. These special pieces capture the spirit of America with rock n’ roll sex appeal.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur there’s always some ups and downs. One of the struggles is that there isn’t enough time to complete all of the creative ideas and projects I’d like to work on.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with King Baby – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We offer unique handcrafted pieces that unite sterling silver with precious stones and leather. At our Santa Monica shop you can experience an exclusive tour of our on-site factory giving you a rare inside look into the jewelry making process.

We house a diverse range of men’s and women’s jewelry, accessories, and apparel. Not your average jewelry store, we are “For the Chosen Few”.

I’m proud to be Made in USA. But I’m most proud of our fan base. We have an extremely loyal clientele that knows my designs better than I do sometimes. It’s great to see how jewelry becomes almost a talisman for the wearer. They attach a special meaning to it.

Our quality as well as us continuing to be made in Santa Monica is something that sets us apart.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The sunsets and the traffic.
