Meet Mitch Lupenski, Chris Poliquin, Will Weston and Phil Caughman of Nite Rinse in Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitch Lupenski, Chris Poliquin, Will Weston and Phil Caughman.

Mitch, Chris and Will, Phil, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our story began at the University of Oregon. Best friends trying to have a little fun, wherever and whenever we could. We’d spend all the money we saved up from various jobs and dumped it into wood to create stages, sound equipment, absurd amounts of production equipment and our personal favorite, Pyrotechnics or as we call it, “Fire Buttons”. We’d throw weekly tailgates during football season that would host around 600-800 people and would take the show on the road for our annual Lake Shasta trip. We’d continue the same theme and throw events nobody could fathom on deserted islands for a weekend of absolute madness. When we left the University of Oregon we knew we wanted to carry on the tradition and try our luck in LA. We threw our first event on November 30th, 2018 at Chewing Foil as a passion project, to test the waters in such a saturated market. Over the last year, we have thrown a total of 6 events and our little ‘passion project” has slowly but surely come to fruition as a fully operational Rinsing machine.

This is just the beginning. Our story has just begun…

Has it been a smooth road?
There absolutely has been struggles and obstacles we’ve had to overcome from the start. Throwing events from the ground up is not an easy task but we believe we have created a formula and built a culture that people enjoy and have bought into. One of the biggest obstacles we’ve had to hurdle has been the artist booking side of the business. At first, agents and artist managers were extremely reluctant to work with new independent visionary’s in a market as saturated as Los Angeles.

Scouting to find the perfect venue to throw the events has also been a challenge we’ve had to continually overcome.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Nite Rinse story. Tell us more about the business.
We are Nite Rinse, a team of LA-based creatives bringing unique experiences to the underground. By intersecting art, music, and curation, each event molds itself to the minds of those present. We provide unapparelled production paired with an acute focus on the latest sounds in electronic music; specifically house & techno. We design stages, source unique venues and give rising artists a platform to show their music to the world.

We are most proud of the proof behind our pudding. We have created an experience people have come to expect when they choose to get ‘Rinsed’. A culture of like-minded individuals coming together for the better. A place for talent of all backgrounds to showcase themselves on a stage built for them.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
With the availability of social media, streaming platforms, and new technologies, artists and DJ’s now have the ability to break into the market without an agent or manager supporting their efforts. With these artists essentially falling into the spotlight overnight, this offers promoters the opportunity to find and discover much more talent than ever before. We hope to see this continue in the future and as the power continues to shift into the hands of the artist, the more choices they will have to decide where they play. In the last 3-4 years, the US market has opened up to more and more underground electronic acts and we hope to see this continue tenfold in places like Las Vegas where residencies are no longer reserved for mainstream artists. We also believe new innovative technologies will allow people to experience music together in different ways than we are accustomed to today.
