Meet Miss Melodee of Miss Melodee Studios in Tarzana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miss Melodee.

Miss Melodee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Miss Melodee Studios is an extension of my Dancing with Miss Melodee Entertainment brand and offers creative and fine arts classes for children, teens, and adults. At MM Studios we strive to nurture artistic and personal growth in a non-competitive positive environment. After many years of teaching children music, dance, and creative movement, I developed the “Dancing with Miss Melodee” brand. Through my CD’s, DVD’s, Books, and the magical world of Boogieland (a land of dancing shoes), I try to bring an inspired twist to your typical dance studio. Together with my husband, former Broadway performer Scott Bridges, the brand was brought to life as Miss Melodee Studios in the heart of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We are fortunate to have some of the best and most loyal clients from all over the San Fernando Valley.  However, when we started the studio, we purchased the location and goodwill of a previous dance studio. We were so thrilled to introduce our positive methods of teaching and student encouragement. Less than a month after taking over, we discovered that the primary teacher from the previous owner was opening her own studio less than 2 miles away and the 275 students we thought we would have an opportunity to do business with were all going to the new studio. So, we officially started with just 37 students. I am happy to say that within 2 years we had restored the business to previous levels. As we enter our fifth year, we have over 500 students in the studio and away programs at 8 schools.

Please tell us about Miss Melodee Studios.
Miss Melodee Studios classes are designed to develop coordination, rhythm, posture, critical thinking, creative movement, and self-expression. Other studios tend to focus on disciplined instruction which can often break down the confidence of a child. We focus on encouraging our little dancers to use their imagination and express themselves through creative movement. We aim to build up the child’s level of confidence nurturing their passions so they can pursue any level of creative art form with personal endurance and fortitude.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
During the holidays, before we’d go to bed, my mother would play on the piano Bruce Springsteen’s “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” and we would sing and laugh, and of course, dance together.
