Meet Mike Smith and Marc Rosenzweig of Zephyr Entertainment in Culver City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zephyr Entertainment’s Mike Smith and Marc Rosenzweig.

Zephyr Entertainment is a Los Angeles based production company dedicated to reinventing classic cinema in the new media era and fostering a community of forward-thinking creatives. The company was founded by filmmakers Mike Smith and Marc Rosenzweig in 2013 while they were still students of the USC School of Cinematic Arts. The Zephyr community has continued to grow due to a commitment to original storytelling, cost-effective production, and wearing many different hats — each member of Zephyr has experience in several roles such as writing, directing, producing, editing, sound design, music composition and much more.

Has it been a smooth road?
“The challenges in building Zephyr have also been some of our best moments as we push ourselves both individually and collectively. Low budgets, limited resources, and seemingly impossible schedules come with the territory, especially with our passion projects, but having such a driven, close-knit team makes me believe that no obstacle is insurmountable.” – Mike Smith (Co-Founder)

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Zephyr Entertainment story. Tell us more about the business.
Since their founding, Zephyr has produced a slate of award-winning short films, web-series, and music videos as well as branded content and live performance videos. Some of the brands they’ve worked with include HBO GO, Gradient Experiential, and GMR Marketing.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
“The film and TV industry is definitely trending toward streaming into the future, presenting a greater need for faster and cheaper niche content. With Zephyr, we will take what we’ve learned from producing short-form content as we move forward into our next phase of developing feature films and TV series.” – Mike Smith (Co-Founder)

“It’s an exciting time to be a storyteller and content creator, where you can just upload your films and instantly have them available to a large audience. We take advantage of having that kind of access to instant feedback and it helps us learn from each of our projects.” – Marc Rosenzweig (Co-Founder)
