Meet Mike Sanchez of LivingFit Nation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Sanchez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Mike. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In the early 2000’s I worked in the finance industry. Once the 2008 recession hit, like many in this field, my finance company closed. I lost everything, went through a divorce, and even ended up living in my car for a few months.

Once I realized the industry needed time to recover, I had to pivot to something that could provide income. I had always worked part-time as a boxing trainer, so I decided to go full time into personal training. The money was good, but not great, so I decided to create my own personal training company called On The Go Trainers. We specialized in in-home personal training. I had some success, we got featured in lululemon (our yoga department), landed a few large corporate clients, and had over 12 independent trainers working for us. Looking for ways to grow the company, I was asked to participate in a corporate health fair. I had no clue what that entailed, but I still did it. After participating in the event, we signed new clients, including the company that hosted the event. I participated in more corporate health fairs and became good friends with the sales director.

One day he came to me and asked if I would ever consider starting my own corporate health event company. After looking at the business model, I thought it was a great idea, so in 2011 I created LivingFit Workforce (now LivingFit Nation). I tried to merge On The Go Trainers with LivingFit for the first year, but it just didn’t work. The profit was greater doing events, so I closed the training company and just focused on LivingFit. That said, like many startups, we struggled the first few years. Year one, we only signed eight clients, however, AT&T, Angels Baseball, and Molina Healthcare were our first few, so that helped bring in other big name companies. Year two, we signed 12, then started to grow from there.

By year five, we had around 40 large clients and started going nationwide. Unfortunately, it was around this time that my business partner started going downhill. He got into drugs, was always drinking during working hours, and taking large amounts of time off. I tried helping him many times, but at the end of the day, he just did not want help. So, I bought him out and rebranded the company to LivingFit Nation. We now service over 200 corporate clients all over the US. We still have AT&T and the Angels, but also Mitsubishi, Lionsgate, Warner Music, Hallmark Labs, and many other large corporate clients. We also added a ton of new services, including COVID-19 Testing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think for most, starting a business from the ground up will always have challenges. When I first started my company, I was living couch-to-couch, and even sleeping in my car some nights.

Nowadays, I embrace challenges. I believe they make you stronger and better entrepreneur.

LivingFit Nation – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
LivingFit Nation specializes in corporate health events, biometric screenings, onsite wellness talks, onsite fitness training, onsite massage, and any other wellness program that our clients request. Due to COVID, many companies like mine have closed. However, I partnered with a few labs and started offering COVID-19 Testing to my corporate clients. So far, we’ve tested thousands of employees.

I think I’m most proud of our list of clients. We daily deal with large companies across the US, and to say that these household brand names are my clients, always makes me smile.

What really sets us apart from others is our customer service. We treat every client like they are our only client.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, success is having the freedom to spend time with my family and friends without stressing over personal finance. That said, as an entrepreneur, I’m always looking for new ways to grow my business, add new services, and build new relationships.
