Meet Mike Peele of The Peele Effect

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Peele.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am 38 years young, a professional dancer/choreographer and working actor. I have a degree in Film/TV and mass media production so when it comes to career my life is entertainment and creating in the arts. I was always known as the guy who can really dance and who was always putting something together to perform for everyone or to showcase everyone else talents.

I have film, TV and commercial work under my belt and have worked with artists such as Beyoncé, Madonna, and Rihanna to name a few. Some of my films include Stomp The Yard and Step Up 3D. I’ve done commercial work for Nike, Nike Women, Garmin, Lexus, Army, and Coca-Cola to name a few. I’ve been in the business professionally for the past 17 years, and I am still hungry to reach those goals I’ve set for myself.

I was born in Brooklyn New York and raised in Detroit. I come from a loving and supportive single mother household. My mom is my heart, soul, best friend and she taught me all that I needed to know in order to go out into the world, follow my dreams and reach my goals. I lived in Atlanta for 10 years before moving back to NYC and then moving here to Los Angeles to continue in my career.

If you can’t tell, I have a love affair with the gym and working out. I am 2x Fitness America Champion and 2x Fitness Universe Champion competing in Musclemania shows, which is one of the top fitness and bodybuilding shows in the world. I never thought I would be good enough to one day get on a bodybuilding stage and win but I did and continued to do the work, and it pays off. I compete for fun and to prove something to myself, that I have what it take in this area of my career/life as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This life is never a smooth ride. I think some of my struggles actually have been me. I am always in my own head, over thinking things or not taking that breath and just going for it right then and there. Today I am a lot better with that, and I just say, “Here we go, let’s do it.” I also was told, “You can’t do it all, find one thing and focus on that.”

If I had listen to those people, I wouldn’t have accomplished so many things. You can do it all and in these times you have to know how to do more than 3 things. So yes, I am a dancer/ choreographer, Actor and fitness expert/instructor. I also create and know how to direct, produce, edit, run audio and lights when needed for my own content. Let’s not forget that I am working on adding voice-over artist to that list.

I use to be a loner when I was younger and was always in my own world. It’s never easy when you feel like you’re not understood or when you’re different. However having a supportive and loving mother, great friends they show you how amazing you are and can be. Has it been smooth no and it never will be, because as soon as things are “perfect” or smooth something gets thrown your way?

However, those times when it wasn’t always smooth, your prepared and know how to deal with those times when they arrive. I wouldn’t change a thing thus far.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Peele Effect – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a brand and what sets you apart from others.
I wanted to create something that infused my love of dance and fitness. Something that anyone would be a part of feel good about themselves and have fun. I came up with Hip-Hop Fit, and it is like no other dance/fitness class that you will attend. We welcome you into the family and allow you to let down your guard and be yourself. It’s doing great and continues to get bigger and bigger no matter where in the world my folks are.

Through this class, I am able to connect with all types of people. They are able to connect with others, make friends, dance and workout hard. It also allows you to see that all these different people have come together for a few nights a week and share 1 thing and that allows us to see how much alike we truly are. I can continue to be successful and do great things in entertainment, but I will say this brings me so much joy to see the changes I see in people every day.

In the Class, you have 30min of dance/cardio. During this time the music doesn’t stop, and I had one step after step. We repeat, so you don’t feel left behind or get lost in the dance. The music gets faster as the class keeps going to get that heart rate up and give you the feel of being out at a club.

I then bring you down to 15min for the fit part of the class. We use only your body weight and work all areas of your body. I make sure that your form incorrect and your workout is intense. Then we bring you back up for the last bit of class running the whole dance from top to bottom. You can burn a minimum of 700 calories to 1,300 calories in one class. I am known for making you feel sexy, confident, making you smile and work really hard. I pull no punches, but I all make sure that you feel welcome, comfortable and that you get your money’s worth in class.

I am most proud of the people who have changed their lifestyle completely because of me and or my class. The weight loss is great, but we have people who are more positive now in their life, people who’ve gotten married, new friendships and bonds are made. We have huge church groups that come of young people who love class, women who are pregnant and now have hip-hop fit babies and we have the older generation 65+ who come in and it is like they are in their 20’s all over again. That makes me feel amazing inside.

I’m different because I am me!! No one brings the energy and excitement that only I can bring to a room. Of course, there are other amazing fitness and dance folks out here, and I know plenty of them. It’s about being who you are and bringing what you can to the table. Not trying to be anyone else is key. I tell everyone, give me 1 shot, you’ll come back for more.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Future plans are to continue to grow and expand the brand through more classes, workshops. Word of mouth is very powerful, and my hip-hop fit people are amazing at that. I plan to bring out more content for the folks who can’t make it to my class because they are in another city or country. I also plan to go to more cities and countries to bring my brand of dance/fitness to the masses.

There are some additions that I will be doing, but I can’t give things away because they’re still in the works. I always look forward to new people finding out about my brand and giving me a try. Trusting that I am going to take care of them and give them 100% every time is so important to me.
