Meet Mika Gonda

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mika Gonda.

The Pico is a fully flexible performance space designed to present every form of art. Originally The Pico Playhouse, a 99 seat proscenium theatre and the home of the long-running production “Bleacher Bums,” the space was reimagined by Mika Gonda, undergoing complete renovation and reopening in its current form in the fall of 2017. Equipped with a fully flexible stage and seating plan, state of the art lighting and sound systems, and fully renovated rehearsal, concession, and dressing rooms, The Pico quickly became a destination for some of the top artists in Los Angeles. Home to the acclaimed Ammunition Theatre Company, Improv For The People, Upstage Theatre School, The Pico’s easily transformable ground plan makes it an ideal destination for fashion shows, theatrical performances, dance and piano recitals, readings, film locations, concerts, gallery exhibits, cooperate events, improv, and more. Dedicated to imagination, we are determined to make anything possible.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As all businesses have struggled during the pandemic, we are looking so forward to celebrating all kinds of art, once it is safe to open again, for audiences.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most proud that The Pico serves as a home for artists. When you walk in the door, the feeling of wanting to create is there. And the space is bare, so it can evolve with each new idea.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe thinking outside of the box is essential in running The Pico. Hearing people’s ideas and helping them imagine the idea in our space. I love watching people think. I love watching an idea turn from just that into a reality.
