Meet Micky Skeel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micky Skeel.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Micky. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in Denmark and got into the music industry as an artist back in 2010. I toured all over Denmark and received multiple gold and platinum records. After a couple of years, I wanted to move on from that project and become a songwriter. That led to me moving to Los Angeles in 2017. I’ve worked here as a songwriter ever since. This year I wrote a song called “27 Days,” which was so personal that I couldn’t give it away. That song somehow made me want to become an artist again. Right now I’m working on my debut album set to release late 2019.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Since I started, I’ve been at three different major labels. Sony, Warner, and Universal. That might sound like a dream come true but every deal had its ups and downs. I feel like I’ve really struggled the past ten years, always aiming for the next record deal but when I achieved it, it wasn’t really fulfilling. I’m a very independent artist and I like to do things my way which isn’t always ideal when working with a major label. For my future songs, I’m releasing them through my own label (TwentyThirty Records) which gives me 100% creative freedom.

What else should our readers know?
I’m a singer/songwriter. I write songs taken directly from my life. They are very personal and I’m very specific in my songwriting. I usually call it stories that are put to melody. This also means I’m completely letting my guard down and tell my stories with no filter. Both the good and the sad songs.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Going from songwriter to artist has been a major change for me. I want to embrace that feeling and still be honest even though I’m putting myself on the spot. My goal for 2019 is to release my album, hopefully leading to a tour next year.
