Meet Michelle Morgan of Vida Es Oro in Mission Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Morgan.

Michelle, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I began playing sports in elementary school and fell in love with basketball. It was in 8th grade when I decided I wanted to play basketball in college and earn a scholarship. Outside of my family and friends, I dedicated myself to school and basketball. Any free moment I had, I was outside working on my game. Through sports, I learned so much about myself and the work it takes to attain a goal. Looking back there were also things that I could have done better and it had nothing to do with skills set, but with mindset.

There were times, where I thought I knew it all and I wasn’t coachable. My mindset hindered me at times whether during practice or a game. I now see how valuable it is and therefore I give back as a Transformational Sports Coach working with student-athletes empowering their minds through sports, in turn using those skills in life.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have definitely been some challenges along the way. One of the first was my company name. The original name was Life Is Gold, but when I went to purchase the URL on GoDaddy, it was taken. My excitement dropped in that instance and thought about contacting the person who had it to see how I could obtain the URL. That was definitely a moment where I had to take a step back and not force the issue. I sat there and tried to think of something else until it clicked to translate the words. The URL is taken has been one of the many blessings throughout the process of growing my business and brand.

Another challenge was writing How YOUth Triumph in Sports: Tools That Create a Triumphant Life. I self-published the book and found myself asking if I made the right decision to do so. The entire process from start to finish took me 2 years. I voice recorded the book on my phone since I began to notice I was thinking faster than I could type, which became frustrating as I tried to get all of my thoughts out. I originally wrote the book for parents of student-athletes and then decided to write to the athlete as I found it important for the athlete to be accountable for their life. I knew the book would be beneficial in instilling the mindset of taking responsibility for your life. From there, I had to go through my writing and change the direction in who I was speaking to. I had a countless number of edits and watched a lot, I mean a lot of YouTube videos and read quite a bit of article on how to format in Microsoft Word. I knew the basics of Word, but by having to put the book together, I had to learn an entirely new level of Word.

There were times, where I wanted to stop, there were times where I cried out of frustration, and even times where I wanted to throw my laptop. There were times, where I felt I had no clue where this was going, but I kept going, kept researching, I kept receiving encouragement, asking for support, and when I received the sample copy, it was all worth it.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Vida Es Oro – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Vida Es Oro was started due to the realization of the importance of self-love in my life. I then began to notice how I truly valued myself internally was being shown to me externally. I was in an unhealthy relationship and knew that I had to commit to taking actions that reflected me loving myself and I had to step outside of my comfort zone in order to live in it. From there, I began to ask myself how much further would I be along in my self-love journey if I had understood the concept at an adolescent age.

I had already been working with youth at this point, but this is when I truly knew my purpose in life was working with young people. As a former student-athlete, I played basketball and earned a scholarship, I felt compelled to focus on working with student-athletes as a Transformational Sports Coach. I am passionate about empowering the minds of young people I work with. Mindset is an intricate piece in reaching your full potential in sports, but most importantly in life.

I noticed a lot of self-help books are written for adults, but I asked myself, “What about the youth?” Another way I wanted to give back to student-athletes is by writing the book, How YOUth Triumph in Sports: Tools That Create a Triumphant Life. This book is about the valuable tools that make players great. What makes these tools so important is that you can apply them in any area of your life, now and forever to create a triumphant life.

I then created Mind Right Game Tight, which is a series of interviews with current and former student-athletes sharing their story and experiences that impacted them in a positive way. I wanted to give a voice to athletes so that current athletes may listen to someone who’s been in their shoes who may inspire them and encourage them to overcome any adversity they may be facing.

I’ve also relaunched Vida Es Oro Apparel. The apparel line was created to send positive vibrations out into the Universe. The apparel consists of empowering words so that when you wear the apparel you feel empowered, but the person who walks by you, who may not know you, may read your clothing and get that boost they may have needed at that moment.

Vida Es Oro is an international brand, my vision for it continues to grow in so many ways and I am excited to share it with you.
