Meet Michelle Gomez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Gomez.

Michelle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was career coaching and mentoring for almost nine years before I wrote my first book and launched my company. I realized that people came to me for advice toward achieving their personal and professional goals, and I had the ability to coach, guide, support and hold them accountable until they saw it through. As I saw people landing jobs, getting promotions, going for the degrees, etc., I decided to write a book and launch my company.

Since I launched Michelle Gomez Coaching in September 2018, my book Own Your Brilliance: Overcome Impostor Syndrome for Career Success, has become an international best-seller on Amazon, I’ve spoken at events geared toward female empowerment, career strategy, entrepreneurial success, and academic advancement. My online career course, The Career Catalyst helps clients get clear, get positioned, and get HIRED! I also work with clients one-on-one for personal and professional growth and success.

In January 2020, I launched a new platform of my coaching services called Healed Hijas. A Facebook group focused on coaching Latina adult daughters healing from their Mother Wounds. While this is a taboo topic in the Latina community, the group grew to more than 100 Latinas in a matter of 6 weeks. We have since hosted webinars, have our own merchandise, and have since launched a membership program with added support, tools, and resources for healing the Latina Mother Wound.

It’s been quite a journey so far. Lots of lessons learned through the ups and downs of the entrepreneurial journey. But I am hopeful and excited for the future ahead.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve definitely experienced some setbacks. Financial setbacks. Creative setbacks. Personal setbacks… All of it.

I certainly spent a lot of money when I first got started, as I was trying to accelerate my success by buying into very expensive programs and trying to learn and execute the tools and methods I was learning about growing an online business. I put myself in some debt, and for someone who doesn’t like DEBT, this was hard! I had to learn (the hard way) that even with programs and resources out there to automate tasks, personal growth and consistency are what is truly required to build a business.

I’ve had ideas flop and had systems not work for me. In fact, I’ve put projects on hold and had to wait till I had the time and capital to bring it to life. Very recently, I had to cancel my first company organized LIVE event, due to the Coronavirus pandemic and the calling to us all to stay quarantined and practice social distancing. I was devastated. I put so much time, effort, and money toward that event, and I was excited to meet the women in my online community in-person. I had to make the difficult decision to take the event virtual in an effort to keep everyone safe. I was down, but not out.

Very recently, I faced a personal setback with my book. Due to personal circumstances, I am now having to re-edit the book and make some very important changes. As I’m making these edits now. I feel a sense of sadness but also looking forward for the potential growth that will come from this change. Own Your Brilliance, second edition will be a labor of love but my hope is that the message in the book remains intact: you can thrive and be successful if you just get out of your own way.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Michelle Gomez Coaching offers life coaching, career coaching, speaking services and access to the books I’ve written: Own Your Brilliance (ebook and paperback) and The Latina Mother Wound (ebook only). I specialize in helping women achieve personal and professional success through a unique combination of career and life coaching strategies. I’m most known as The Latina Life & Career Coach, and very recently as a Latina Mother Wound coach; as I also coach Latina adult women toward healing their Mother Wounds and reconnecting with their inner-feminine.

I am most proud of having spoken at Harvard University for the 2019 Latinas Empowerment and Development Conference, being the recipient of the Latina of the Year Award in 2019, by the National Peace Officers Association, SGV Chapter, being chosen as one of the Top 20 Career Coaches to Watch in 2020 by TalentLMS, and the countless success stories by the amazing clients I get to work with.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I feel Southern California is a great place to start an online coaching business, as you have close proximity to a lot of great events while still building a business remotely from home. Building an online business does offer a tremendous amount of flexibility to really work from anywhere.
