Meet Michelle aka NinaMichelle Crockett of DangerousRagz in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle aka NinaMichelle Crockett.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michelle. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My relationship with fashion developed at a young age. My mother loved to shop and would always have me right with her. We would go to big department stores, to smaller scale boutiques, to Yard sales, and second hand stores. I learned how to understand variety and how to appreciate higher end fashion items and how to bring something used back to life and rock it like I just popped the tag. I definitely learned from the best.

I’m glad my mother showed me those ropes at a young age. I remember being at a young age and already being very in tune with my outfits. Coordinating my colors, and just wanting ( to wear) things that were flattering to fit me. As I got of age and started buying my own clothing I started to spice things up. I started to focus more on the adventure of finding signature items ” the diamond in the rough” and bringing them to life or having them altered to look like something new. This is when I really started to tap into my gift. I would find items for my friends and style them in the items or show them different ways they could wear the particular piece. I began to get more and more passionate about it and finally said to myself I want to do something with this gift of mine.

I love styling other’s and developing styles that take them out of their everyday comfort zone but at the same time make them feel comfortable, refreshed, and give them a new edge. I thought to myself “wow” I get such great compliments when I’m wearing my vintage pieces. To some the word THRIFT or VINTAGE might be associated with rags but when I get my hands on them I have the gift to pair them with modern items and turn those “Rags” into a dangerously beautiful ensemble. This is when DANGEROUSRAGZ was born 2018.

Has it been a smooth road?
I would definitely say the road has been rough and I still have rough patches but the learning process has been amazing. Learning how to get around roadblocks has been challenging but I’m doing it step by step and each time becomes more rewarding. Trying to start your own brand/business by yourself with knowledge that I’ve basically researched and gathered on my own has been challenging as well. Having other Amazing creatives around me makes things a little more smooth and I’m grateful for that. Whenever I’m feeling stuck, doubtful, or in need of something to take me to the next level by the grace of God and prayer the job gets done.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DangerousRagz story. Tell us more about the business.
DangerousRagz is the name of my online store being developed. It’s going to be an online store where you can purchase one of a Kind Vintage pieces and also modern day clothing garments. I have so many people ask me ” Where did you get that jacket or item” (pertaining to my vintage items). When I tell them from a Vintage store I get the same response that they can never find the type of items I find. When I walk in a vintage store or go thrifting within the first 10-20 min my basket is full of fun times. DangerousRagz will be a platform to shop from the comfort of your own home and you don’t even have to do the dirty work. All the pieces will be handpicked by me. I have a knack for thinking outside of the box, piecing together garments that others wouldn’t have considered on their own. I would also say my ability to literally take something that is considered a “rag” or something that may seem too bright, flashy, or loud with a funky print and actually combine modern pieces with it. I have a knack for thinking outside of the box,

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I feel like the sky is the limit when it comes to styling. There are so many upcoming singers, rappers, artist, models, etc. While they may be talented in their particular field putting together styles that set them apart might not be their forte however being in those types of industries your appearance definitely is what can set you apart. This is when creatives like myself come into play to assist in that area. The game is definitely changing and people are becoming way more open with fashion so I see nothing but exciting changes/shifts coming in the future of Wardrobe styling.
