Meet Micheline Abounassar of in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Micheline Abounassar.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began drawing at age 5 and a half, where I won a first place award contest from the whole school in St. Joseph Antoura, Lebanon. (I drew a picture of a nun carrying a rosary and a church and people following the nun to church to pray. On the other side of the drawing, I drew a picture of kids on Sunday playing ball in a nearby pool. The message here was that we should take care of holy days and each other through prayer and meditation for a better world…). After this experience, I was around 8 years old in Cyprus island and I had put several of my drawings and Disney drawings at a fence and tree and sold them to passersby. I immediately sold out my drawings… This felt so wonderful that I continued my passion and won several 1st place awards in my schools, drawing for school plays covers as Oliver Twist, etc. My teachers would keep most of my projects as examples to others. I then received a scholarship to Otis College of Art and Design for the summer, my teacher had to pick only one student from high school and she said she picked me because she saw great potential and she loved my artworks. I kept going and on May 12, 2009, one of the highlights of my career, one of my Oil Printed Paintings of Jesus of Nazareth was gifted to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI in Jerusalem to take with him to Rome. Then in 2010, the Holy Father also received a gift of The Virgin Mary of Nazareth painting print in Cyprus and took it with him to The Vatican. I’m a Fine Artist living & working in Los Angeles, California. Specializing in Original Oil Paintings & Portraits (All Subjects for Wall Art, Unique Home Decor & Gifts, & Live Art Auction Paintings.) With true passion & love for helping renowned Charities with Live Auction Art to help raise money for Muscular Diseases & Cancer Research, etc. A painting print has been auctioned at the Black-n-Blue-Ball in May 2015 for $17,000. Additional highlights of renowned Dignitaries that received Oil Paintings by Micha include: The Pope (His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI on May 12, 2009 received Jesus & Mary of Nazareth Paintings from Jerusalem to the Vatican. My paintings were also Gifted to National Goodwill Ambassador Reagan Imhoff, to Jay Leno & to the Harley Davidson Loveride Fundraisers (USO, Wounded Warrior Project); as well as to Mother Angelica & The Nuns, to St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, to Special Olympics CEO Mr. Patrick McClenahan, to Philanthropist Business Man Carlos Slim Helu by Gilbert Chagoury (Ambassador of St. Jude Children’s Hospital), & more.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has certainly not been a smooth road journey to say the least. From the time I was a little girl, where I had lived in Lebanon and there was a war going on, and we would hide in underground shelters without food, water, or electricity at times. My Family has suffered a lot as well. We arrived to the United States on the eve of Halloween in 1990 with $25 in my father’s pocket. My Father worked and also had opened a nice big clothing store around 1997, where he sold family clothes and men’s suits to several well-known dignitaries, basketball players, etc. Although this did not last very long because my father Edward had a major accident (where he caved through the roof of this store all the way to the bottom and had to be rushed to the ER hospital. (after having had a major Heart Attack, several surgeries, and now my dad has cancer…), it has not been easy for our family. My mom Aida also has heart disease… My brother Michael is a Home Theatre Designer & TV Installer (his website is He has done and does a lot of home theatres systems for movie stars, writers, producers, well-known dignitaries. My brother and I also have some health things going on, but with faith and hope and love we keep going strong despite life’s challenges.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
The great times I spent with all my family, parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, etc. I also loved my drawing times and contests at school (where my mom and dad helped me to start drawing at age 5).
