Meet Michael Roush of rev’pod™ in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Roush.

Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
The story of rev’pod™ is a story about four friends with a dream, no seriously! We all travel a lot and we wanted to make the experience of flying a lot more… COZY. In fact, we wanted to make life, in general, a more comfortable experience, so we created a new sustainable travel + loungewear garment.

The startup is comprised of our two wonderful partners, plus my wife and I. Together, we designed, manufactured and are now selling our new product all right here in LA. Teaming up with great local vendors, and having fun creating our vision for the future of great travel wear.

It all started with an idea and quickly blossomed into a full-fledged startup. The last 9 months have seen a huge evolution for us, and now we are finally open for business! Our Kickstarter funded at 111% and launched our business to the next level.

Our team is passionate about taking care of people and the planet, we also plant a tree with every rev’pod™ sold. We believe the fashion industry needs to move towards a brighter future based on better labor standards, higher quality materials, and a more eco-friendly approach to business.

Thanks for taking a minute to read about our little startup, you can learn more about us at

Has it been a smooth road?
There’s no such thing as a smooth road when you’re running a lean startup! Budgets are always a challenge and trying to run things on a shoestring means every dollar counts.

Luckily, our little team has a LOT of talent — so we can handle a lot of jobs and tasks in-house. For everything else, we find artists and professionals to help us out. We even found our videographer + video editor right here in LA. 🙂

Another challenge has been figuring out how to run a fashion business that is eco-friendly, sustainable and viable in the long term. We have chosen our vendors specifically because we believe in the way they operate and have sourced materials that are renewable as much as possible. We feel great about what we’ve created, and we are proud of the way we’re running rev’pod™!

We have also learned that startups have to make a lot of decisions, and there’s always more to do. Trying to balance that with having a life is tricky. Our team works because we all do our part, and allow each other to try new ideas and speak our minds honestly.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We specialize in sustainable travel + loungewear. What does that mean? So far, we have created an innovative and unique new product called a rev’pod™ — you kind of need to see it in action to understand it. So check out if you want to learn more.

I’ll do my best to describe it here, it’s kind of like a super cozy cocoon that’s made of ultra luxurious (and eco-friendly!) fabric. It has a hood with a built-in eye mask for sleeping on the plane (or at home for a nap, no judgment!) It also has other features like built-in mittens, secure pockets and dual-zippers.

What sets us apart from others is really two things:
1. There is no other product out there like rev’pod™
2. We are sustainable, socially aware, and ethical in our business practices

Profit is not, and will never be, our primary motivation for existing as a company. We care much more about making an incredible product available that helps people in a real way. And we’re doing in a way that’s good for the environment!

We are most proud of the fact that as a team we created rev’pod™ out of thin air, and have successfully brought it to market. With the help of some AWESOME vendors right here in LA, we were able to bring our dream to life. We hope it ultimately helps people around the world travel and lounge more comfortably!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles has been wonderful for a couple of reasons:
1. We found almost all of our vendors here, which made doing business much easier. We were able to meet with them face to face and form great relationships.

2. The creativity here is fantastic. Our video team is local, and we did all of our product photography at FD Studios. We also used all local models for our images.

Being able to create and market a product with resources from one city has been truly wonderful. We never had to look further than our own backyard to get most of our work done.

If I was talking to someone just starting out, I would recommend that they decide if LA has the type of industry resources they need to support them in their venture. For fashion and marketing, it worked perfectly for us. But there may be other business that would need to look elsewhere. It just depends on what you’re trying to do!
