Meet Michael Estrella of Mikey E in Hermosa Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Estrella.

Michael, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my channel a little more than a year ago starting from 0 subscribers and 0 watch time hours from viewers.

From uploading inconsistently to settling on a consistent uploading schedule, I’ve been growing my channel at a fast rate growing within the YouTube community. Within one year I’ve gained 4.1k subscribers, around 4.1k of accumulated hours watched, and around 240k views in total.

I actually had a channel in high school but I deleted it after I was bullied for having it and being “weird”. Last year I told my friends I was thinking about starting a channel and they all were super supportive. I made a video, edited, and posted it that week and have been on the road ever since.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road but it has been a steady learning process. The internet with all the different social media platforms can be a sensitive and harsh and you have to learn how each culture of each platform works.

When I started my channel, I didn’t think about how people would have an opinion on me on whether they liked me or not due to a video they’ve seen. You don’t think about the negative side to putting yourself out there on the internet until people feeling the need to comment with mean things try to ruin your day.

You definitely have to have thick skin and prevail just to spite them.

Mikey E – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from others?
My channel just expresses myself and how I want to connect with others who watch getting across the message to just be themselves.

I do whatever comes to mind in my videos and I feel like I just try and show people no matter how cringey and weird you are you can be you lol like who cares!

I’m known in the YouTube community I’d say as cringe content. Which I feel like most people think that’s bad but I honestly think it’s so funny and cool; I think people should embrace it! I don’t mind embarrassing myself in certain aspects like when it comes to my videos.

Now in no way am I as amazing, funny, or as well rehearsed as Michael Scott but when I think cringe he’s what comes to mind. I use to literally get second-hand embarrassment just watching him and I kept asking myself, “how can someone be this stupid”. Now I watch him and I literally die laughing and accept him for his ways. He embraces the cringe of his character without hesitation and so can I and others!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
So far, I’d say there’s a couple of milestones. But the biggest one would be…. the other day someone recognized me from being a subscriber. Someone I had no idea who they were!! Soooo crazy, it made my day!
