Meet Michael Colwell of Ocean Market Grill in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Colwell.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I met Efthemios (owner) about a year ago, we began discussing our backgrounds and determined we were very likeminded in terms of hospitality. Over the course of 6 months, we stayed in contact and would bounce ideas off each other. I joined his team full time in January and have taken on the role of Regional Director.

I personally have 20 years of hospitality experience, beginning as a pizza cook in Arizona as a teenager. Shortly thereafter, I moved to California and continued my career as a cook with aspirations for more. Since that time, I’ve held several roles including general manager for multiple popular Southern California restaurant groups.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would have to say that there are no smooth roads in hospitality.

One must always be prepared to handle early mornings, late nights, extreme criticism among countless other obstacles. Hospitality is what made me the man I am today and I am fortunate to have worked amongst some of the best in the industry.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ocean Market Grill – what should we know?
Our company was founded in 2014 and goodness have we evolved along the way! We’ve expanded from one location to two and have a third on the way in late summer.

We provide an upscale meal at a reasonable price in a relaxed environment. I would have to say we’re known for quality, freshness and cleanliness.

I would have to say we’re most proud of our community involvement. We are always looking for ways to get involved and give something back to the very people who come out to support us on a daily basis.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
It’s almost impossible to say that there’s any one thing that will make us successful. It’s so important to maintain the high standards of excellence in terms of overall quality, service and ambiance. I feel personally that we’re developing a solid reputation for all of the above really.
