Meet Alison Masson of Metal Babe Mayhem in Hollywood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alison Masson.

Alison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I created Metal Babe Mayhem in 2006 as a way to combine my biggest passions in life: Music, Fashion, and the desire to help others. I have worked hard the past fourteen years to establish brand notoriety and to gain worldwide exposure.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’m not sure that a ‘smooth road’ exists when working as an entrepreneur. There are always struggles, but the most important thing is how you manage those struggles and learn from them. I think my biggest struggle has been the name… I didn’t realize this in 2006, but the name really has pigeonholed the company.

People either think that we only sell ‘Metal’ related items, or we only sell to women. Both of these assumptions are incorrect! Metal Babe Mayhem sells clothing for both Men and Women, and we offer unique designs that appeal to fans of all types of music, not just metal.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Metal Babe Mayhem… “Where Music And Fashion Meet” is a rock n’ roll clothing company with over 30 unique designs on a variety of products. (Tank Tops, T-Shirts, Hoodies, Flasks, Bottle Openers, Dog Tags, Leather Cuffs) We cater to both men and women who are fans of music and rock n’ roll. Designs include our staple, the lips and bones logo, in addition to designs with guitars, guitar picks, skulls, hearts, bats, pin-up girls, and stars. We also sell Officially Licensed Jewelry from bands including Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, AC/DC, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Motörhead, and more.

I’m most proud that because of Metal Babe Mayhem, things have gone ‘full circle’ for me. Meaning, that when I was a teenager, growing up in St. Charles, MO listening to bands like Savatage, Armored Saint, LA Guns, and Poison, I never in a million years dreamed that I would be living in Hollywood, CA and that these bands would be wearing my clothing designs onstage and while touring the world.

Also, I never dreamed that I would be in a position to interview some of my favorite bands, including Queensrÿche, Megadeth, HIM, Lordi, Hardline, Slaughter, and Enuff Z’Nuff for my own website. It truly is an honor.

I am proud that I have been able to help so many other musicians with the platforms I have created. (Monthly Playlist, Blog Site, MBM Music LLC, etc.)

I believe that my customer service definitely sets me apart from others. I communicate directly with every customer and personally keep them notified of their order status when they order online. I also include a handwritten personal note with each order, throw in a free gift or two, and pack every package with love.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
When I started Metal Babe Mayhem, the idea was to help promote bands while establishing the company. I was employed full-time elsewhere and used my income to create the brand. My slogan at that point was “I’m A Rock Journalist with a Clothing Line.” In 2015 I was working MBM (more than) full-time as my only income and shifted direction to focus more on sales. I updated my slogan to “Where Music And Fashion Meet.” I think this has confused people and they don’t necessarily know what I do. I wish I would have made this clear from the beginning.

The primary focus of Metal Babe Mayhem is to sell rock n’ roll clothing online, to stores worldwide, and while vending at concerts and festivals. Of course, I still enjoy helping others and promoting bands, but I have shifted that focus over to my sister company, MBM Music LLC.
