Meet Mercede Hodge of Mercedesjewelrybox in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mercede Hodge.

Mercede, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started Paparazzi accessories in October of 2017 to simply make some extra money to pay for my son’s daycare expenses. Within my first month, I did just that! I quickly started to grow my brand and team and that daycare money soon doubled then tippled then quadrupled, all from $5 jewelry.

I went from paying daycare to a three bedroom condo in Long Beach with my commissions and sales. And what started off as a hobby grew into a business that I was bringing in the same and some months even more than my monthly salary as a 13 years school teacher is Los Angeles. Now from being in business for a little over two years working full-time for myself is becoming more of a reality. Over the past two years, I now have a team of 258, 67 of which I personally sponsored, advanced in rank five times, hit crown club 25 and Life of the party Gold each year.

Has it been a smooth road?
As a team leader, I had to learn that not all on my team had the same goals and commitment level that I have. With any business, there are highs and lows, but it is what you do in those times that count. Though my two years with Paparazzi and my great success, I am not rebuilding my team and brand. I have also learned that it is ok to start over and to go up you must go down. Those who are still working their business on my team I appreciate them for grinding and not giving up. My ultimate goal is to leave teaching and be able to replace my income plus some. To be able to do that, I have to work (teach) and werk (work my business after work). That means late nights, early mornings when you do not feel like it when it’s going well when it’s not going well, when you have support and when you do not. I have to constantly dive into personal development to keep me motivated, revisit my why and have heart to heart conversations with my accountability partners.

When I began this journey, I was not comfortable standing in front of crowds and speaking or even going up to strangers and starting a conversation. Through my journey, I have had the opportunity to speak to and train crowds of people. I now look forward to talking to people about the business.

Mercedesjewelrybox offers fun, fashionable and affordable $5 accessories from Paparazzi accessories. I sell my products through social media, FB lives and online store ( I think what sets me apart is my personality. I am a very outgoing individual with high energy that you can feel coming across the screen if you were to watch one of my FB live videos. I make personal connections with my customers and team members. I like to operate my team like a family. I am not afraid to try new things.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see my industry continuing to keep up with the trends of the seasons each year. We currently add new inventory to our collection daily. Over the next 5-10 years, I see this company becoming a household name one people know about like MaryKay, Avon and Tupperware.
