Meet Melissa Pellone of PELLONE COLLECTION

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Pellone.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
A native New Yorker, growing up, I was always surrounded by incredible and chic style. Creative and ambitiously driven from a young age, with influences from painting and art, I learned I could translate my love of all things beautiful and inspirations through designing.

Establishing early on after attending Parsons the New School of Design as a 15 year old academy student & later solidifying through my degree in Fashion Design becoming a graduate of FIDM at 20, I apply the energetic and chic classy style from my New York roots paired with my love and influences of California and old Hollywood glamour to create innovative ready to wear for the modern contemporary woman.

After years as an industry best selling Designer for major corporate brands in the dress and separates category, I chose to truly follow my heart and create PELLONE as a way to transcend my dreams of designs into the most chic and modern realities. Starting with a single design, The Dahlia Dress Set, which was created one night when I found myself invited to attend Fashion Week as a guest and I had nothing to wear!, when I wore it to the show it caused a commotion on the red carpet and was invited to show the expanded line the very next season at LA Fashion Week.

Since its initial launch the collection has grown to be over 50+ pieces opening/headlining seven more fashion shows in cities such as San Diego, Austin TX, LA, NY, & Hollywood, most recently opening the Opening Night of OC Fashion Week with the Resort collection and closing on Finale Night with evening wear aboard the luxury Eternity Yacht in Newport Beach. That first design “The Dahlia” is now my #1 best selling in addition to being the most photographed and requested item by celebrities & models.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As far as Design, and the creation of the collection, it really came together quickly. From the decision of creating the first piece to launching the 40 piece collection at Fashion Week, it was really within a 3 to 6-month time frame. One design just seemed to lead to another.

When you really love what you do, and you are very confident in what you do, as I had been an established Designer for other major corporate apparel brands, I felt like I had been preparing all these years for this very moment to launch my own.

What I was not prepared for at all, was that a month before I was about to launch my collection at Fashion Week, to be hit by a drunk driver on the freeway who’s speed was over 80 mph. My life was changed in seconds, my life will never be the same again, and I am really lucky to be alive. In my heart I know my will to live was so much stronger, I have so much left to do.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about PELLONE COLLECTION – what should we know?
PELLONE is known for whimsical feminine and flirtatious design. It’s a play on classy chic elegance and sexy, with a focus on beautiful and intricate details and fabrics, while flattering the body with structure or the lack of, for example, I love to mix fitted silhouettes with floaty soft fabrics that have movement.

The pieces make a statement and evoke reaction, through bold color, shape, sheer details. I love the concept of timelessness and pull inspiration from vintage fashion while thinking about the modern woman and what would she love to wear that transcends trends and fad.

I design the fashion shows an extension of the brand, and as an experience and I am most proud of those, it’s really amazing to see it all together as a collection in just a few moments.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
It really takes a village! My family for all their incredible support and who are there through it all. I am so incredibly grateful for so many there are so people that contribute in one way or another.

Creatively, for example, my main photographers, models, and filmmakers, and on the production and business side, my producers, vendors, advisors, and mentors, just to mention a few. And especially my customers, guests of my shows and all the fans of the brand!
