Meet Melanie Shaevel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Shaevel.

Hi Melanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve had a love for interior design since I was a little girl! I vividly remember constantly changing my childhood bedroom around, always wanting to update it however I could. I knew for a very long time that this was the career path I wanted to take. I attended Boston University where I studied Public Relations, and in the summers would work for interior design firms. Eventually when I graduated I began working in interior design and received a certificate of Interior Design from UCLA Extension. It’s been almost ten years since I began working in the industry, and finally decided I was ready to start my own company. I couldn’t be happier with how this journey has started and can’t wait to see where it takes me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having worked for various firms, from world renowned designers to small studios, I was lucky to receive a foundation of knowledge from many different perspectives. Like most, I had to start at the bottom of the food chain when I began my career, so I was able to shadow and learn from my peers. I have witnessed the good, the bad and the ugly which has ultimately helped me transition into my own design company!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My work is primarily in residential single family homes, and though I’m just getting started on my own, my current projects range from full remodels to furnishings and decor. I pride myself in being kind and patient to others, which can prove difficult in this industry. Treating people with respect is most important to me, which I believe helps me to attract the best clients! When it comes to my projects, I’m always trying to be innovative in each design and use elements my clients didn’t know were possible.

What does success mean to you?
Success to me is having happy clients! At the end of the day, I’m here to create beautiful designs and my clients are trusting me to deliver their dream homes. It is such a great feeling surprising clients with ideas they never knew they could have!
