Meet Megan Lipshultz of Here:Now Apparel in Silverlake

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Lipshultz.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Megan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It’s year 16 for me in LA and you could say my time here has been pretty ‘LA’. I spent years as a personal assistant before moving into the world of concert and event booking. I managed to pepper in some side-school; special effects makeup, macrobiotic cooking, photography, spin instructor, notary and even bartending school.

“You’ve lived a lot of lives” is something I’ve heard more than once. I guess that’s kind of true. I’m in the know-a-little about a lot of camps and that, paired with an impulsive nature will get you a lot of lives.

Anyhow, we’re here to talk about here:now apparel, right?! Tie-dye is something I’ve been doing for fun for as long as I can remember. My aesthetic is subtle, almost ethereal. And while these types of dyed-pieces existed in the world, they weren’t always at a price point I would consider friendly.

here:now apparel has been around for a while, but with the stay-at-home order, garment dyeing gave me purpose and I finally had the time and energy to properly dive into and grow the business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Pretty smooth? Definitely. Windy and up-hill at times? Also yes. Life lessons learned? For sure.

It’s difficult for me to pin down specifics when every single person is experiencing the same struggle right now- how to best live in this new quarantine/post-quarantine world. Right now, it’s take everything day-by-day, stay safe and stay positive (and make as much tie-dye as possible 🙂 ).

here:now apparel – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
here:now apparel features comfortable, hand-dyed and tie-dyed clothing with inviting color palettes.

We sell ready-made, flagship items but are known for our custom pieces and specialize in matching sets of sweatshirts, shorts, sweatpants and socks. For custom items, you’ll choose from our existing color palettes or work with us to create your own.

We use a dyeing technique that gives us more control of our color and patterns. Color placement is balanced but maintains an air of spontaneity. New products and additional palettes will be added as we continue to grow.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me comes down to two things my mom always told me:

1. ‘All you can do is try your best.’
2. The 80/20 rule- if you like what you do 80% of the time and dislike it 20%, then you’ve made it.

Right now, I’m feeling pretty successful.

Thank you, mom.
