Today we’d like to introduce you to Meg Remien.
Meg, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a photographer for over 4 years. After breaking my spine in 2014, I started a small clothing line in pursuit of my passion. I worked with several friends who were already established in fashion and took notes about what was needed in order to run a brand. My favorite part of fashion, though, is the imaging. So I picked up a camera and started shooting behind the scenes and social media photos. Then I started working with hair and makeup teams and eventually, campaigns.
I wake up every morning excited that I get to do something I love. I never take my business for granted and I have the best clients in the world. Only possible in the best city in the world, of course.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I never thought about photography as a profession until I was already doing it – so it’s been pretty smooth road in that regard.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Meg Remien – what should we know?
I am a photographer, specializing in film photography. I think film photography sets me apart from a lot of other photographers. I never edit my film pictures. I love the raw quality that they have. My clients make fun of me sometimes when I’m shooting with 3 cameras at once but I get excited about the way someone moves or an angle of light and I want to get it digitally, on 200 and on 400-speed film at the same time.
I also just love what I do and photography is more fun when we get to play. I love taking risks like going to a weird location, trying crazy makeup or interesting angles.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Success to me is when I have happy clients. I have crazy determination so my job isn’t done until my clients are ecstatic about my work. I also identify opportunities where others get stuck. Sometimes creativity is inspired by obstacles. I love finding ways to work around unique problems with interesting solutions. That’s where my best work comes from.
