Today we’d like to introduce you to Maxi Tone.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Maxi. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
I went to a beauty school in New York and moved to LA after school. I have always dreamed of being a make-up artist for celebrities and moving here in LA is just the right thing to do to pursue that dream. Arts has always been part of my upbringing. I come from a family of painters and artists.
Growing up I was exposed to visual and performing arts. I think moving here in LA Is the ultimate test for any artist trying to make it. There are so many makeup artists here. There are few things that helped me get to where I am now. Having a mentor in the business is one.
I was fortunate to have a couple of people that helped me along the way and paved the way for me to network to some important clients. here are three personal things that I think helped me achieved what I have done; my passion for work, focus and being likable and kind to others.
Being likable is very important since we as make up artist are in everyone’s personal space when we do our job. Clients would only want somebody they like to be in that personal space.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are definitely bumps and detours along the way. LA is the biggest market for artists like us make up artists. You have to be really good in your line of work to make a living here. Everyone wants that Hollywood dream.
Competing with some of the best in the world is not easy. At the same time, it also pushes you to be the best you can be. Having another source of income definitely is sometimes necessary to keep doing your passion.
Other than doing make up, I also have my own make up line that keeps me busy. Having a good network of friends in the industry does help a lot in times when job is slow. It’s been a roller coaster ride but definitely worth every step of the way.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Maxi Tone Make Up Artist – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I do make up for a living. I freelance, and when I available, I do make up for certain projects such as movies and TV shows. I usually get my clients through word of mouth and client recommendations. I was told that I do great with ethnic skin tones and I think my portfolio would show that.
However, I believe I do great in every skin tones. Having been able to do this for decades now and able to provide other make up artists opportunities to work are some of the achievements I am proud of. Having worked with some of the biggest celebrities and maintain my professional relationships with them is another I am proud of.
What sets me apart from other make up artist is my passion and unqualified pursuit of perfection in every job I do.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love big cities such as LA. One thing I love LA is the fact that this is the epicenter of make up industry in my opinion. The best of the best works here. It makes me want to work harder to compete with them which pushes myself to the best of my ability. I love and thrive in competition, and I do better with it.
