Meet Mauricio González of Classic Kickboxing and Classic Bicicletta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mauricio González.

Mauricio is the founder and head instructor of Classic Kickboxing. He has acquired multiple distinguished titles throughout his extensive athletic career, including; two times Colombian National Taekwondo Champion, two times Colombia National Kickboxing Champion, United States National Kickboxing Champion, and Muay Thai Champion.

Mauricio had a serious hamstring injury in one of his fights and found himself dedicating his life to teaching kickboxing for fitness. He’s been teaching since 1993 in the United States. He opened his facility, Classic Kickboxing, in 2002. He finds it extremely rewarding to help others get into shape and stay healthy. He prides himself in teaching real kickboxing skills while making it accessible to all. He also grew up watching the great Columbian cyclists and decided to create Classic Bicicletta, which combines cycling and boxing to provide an excellent cardio and strength training workout.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s safe to say that it has been nothing close to a smooth road. I migrated from Colombia to America alone in 1989 with only $100 and a backpack. I struggled with learning the language, adapting to the environment, and had to survive with the few things I came to the country with. To support myself, I worked multiple jobs simultaneously as a busboy and a dishwasher.

I not only worked but also took classes while also needing to find time to train in Kickboxing and Muay Thai for competitions. In terms of the business, I had to learn everything from scratch. I experienced the hardships of what any normal small-business owner would. I learned everything from the operations, accounting, managing, and troubleshooting of the business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Classic Kickboxing / Classic Bicicletta – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

Currently, more of our clients have heard about Classic Kickboxing, but not many people are aware of Classic Bicicletta’s existence because it is so new, which is a shame because I know it has a lot of potentials to grow and be loved.
