Today we’d like to introduce you to Maurice Howard.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I had just retired, and I wanted to pursue a career as an artist. Lucky for me, Charles Bibbs (who is an international known artist and friend) started me on my journey by becoming my mentor. He said as an artist you must learn the business of art. My first festival, I started learning how to present myself. This included: setting up my booth and tearing it down.
I traveled with Charles all over the country doing exhibitions learning how to deal with the public and practicing my social skills. At this moment, I am improving my website. People are starting to buy my art, and my goal of becoming a successful artist is the plan. The strange thing is I felt at one point, Charles was going to be my competition, and it turned out that he became the person to promote my art. Life is always guiding us. We just have to learn how to follow. I must say, artists must learn the importance of the business if one wants success. Life is like a candle, the longer it burns the shorter it gets. So make sure you use your light wisely.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I had a lot of doubts. My fear of success was one of my downfalls. Finding myself and having confidence in me helped to define my real person. I am glad I went through the struggles because now I know who I really am.
Please tell us more about your art.
It is a retail art business I sell online. All my artwork is created by me. I am known for design and motifs I produce. Starting my own business was one of the best moves that I made. My art is unique, and my style is very interesting. Plus, people enjoy my subject matter. Colorful! Very colorful!
What were you like growing up?
I was always creating games to play by myself. Once I got older, sports, art, and nature were my world. I was very shy, but a very thought-provoking, innovative, typical kid.
