Meet Maud Loiseau and Aude Comte of Paul and Jack in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maud Loiseau and Aude Comte.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Maud and Aude. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We are two best friends and French moms with 2 sons born 12 days apart, Paul and Jack. The idea of our company really started on Halloween 2015 when we wanted to celebrate with our babies (only 2 months old at the time). Having a baby doesn’t mean that you can’t have fun on Halloween! Right? Not wanting to disturb our sleeping newborns with uncomfortable costumes, we decided to dress up the strollers instead. As we are both DIY moms, we created our own swaddles to cover and transform our strollers into cute monsters. Yes, we found some time between nursing and sleepless nights to create it all! It was a hit! People were stopping us to take photos of our friendly monsters!

When shopping for our sons, we noticed that most of the “must have” baby products were baby friendly but not so parent-friendly looking. We strongly believe that Baby products we use every day should look great for parents as well. We wanted to find a good cover for our fancy strollers to protect our babies from the sun. But we couldn’t find any stylish swaddle blankets anywhere. They were all kid friendly but really not parent-friendly!

We then decided to create our own. We’ve started to brainstorm ideas for graphics and looks that would be both kids and parent-friendly. Very quickly we realized we wanted to have bold, large and fun designs and wanted to have them made in LA.

It all started with a fun idea and from there we’ve worked really hard to bring our vision to life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes and no. Our partnership is the easy part but producing in LA is honestly our biggest challenge. We believe it’s important to keep our swaddle blankets locally made in Los Angeles and produce small batches of each design to keep them unique.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are an online small shop believing in locally produced, non-toxic baby swaddles blankets with the main focus on unique designs…

We are specialized in baby shower gifts, for babies and moms. We are proud of the look of our swaddles and the fact that our customers get super creative with the way they use them. It means they are friendly for everyone and it was our main focus right from the start.

We see people wearing them as scarves, using them as travel blankets, stroller covers and many other creative ways. Kids love them as blankies and we even have framed some in our nurseries as art pieces!

What were you like growing up?
Aude: Born in France, I grew up with a passion for art, crafts and French culture. I spent my childhood painting, crafting and building models of all sorts. I went on to study interior design in Paris and had a 10 years career working for a retail development company in Los Angeles before starting Paul and Jack.

Maud: Growing up in France, I always had a passion for fashion, art and drawing. Right after high school, I graduated from a fashion school and moved to Paris the capital of fashion! I continued my career in the U.S. working for different couture designers before starting Paul and Jack.
