Meet Matt Sanger of Roto in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Sanger.

Matt, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been producing music from my bedroom for about six years now. Being an introvert all my life, I had always been searching for the perfect way to express myself. After exploring many different genres of music and a few instruments, I discovered a community of ground-breaking producers who all made music from their bedrooms and uploaded online. A lot of the music I heard during that era spoke to me like no art form ever had before. I had to be a part of that community.

When I started making beats all I wanted was to impact a large number of people with my music. I still do, but what I realize now more than ever is the importance of cherishing all the amazing relationships and experiences I’ve come across because of music.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Heck no! I have had so many struggles with music. I grew up with ADHD so I’ve never been able to focus as well as I’d like to. My dedication and passion for learning music is what pushed me through the entire beginner/learning process. Learning a new computer software that you’ve never used before can be pretty difficult to say the least. But rewarding things never come easy and learning how to produce music is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

Six years later, It’s still not a smooth road. I struggle with creative-block often. I easily get stressed out when I can’t think of any good ideas. I’m recently learning how crucial it is to be aware of my mental health and assess my thoughts and emotions. If I’m struggling internally, it will reflect in my music.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Roto is a Beat-Maker/DJ specializing in music production.

I’m known for making chill, future-wave, trap hip-hop instrumentals. I provide original music for visual media like TV shows as well as Instrumental tracks for singers and rappers.

I’m proud of the journey that I’ve had thus far. I’m proud of all the music that I’ve made because it’s laid a foundation for what’s coming next.

Everybody’s different but we’re all the same so what sets me apart is that I’m me!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Having such an amazing family it’s hard to choose. I like to think of it all as one big hunk of nostalgia and love 🙂
