Meet Matt Morreale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Morreale.

Matt, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From a young age, I always knew I wanted to pursue music. I began taking classical guitar lessons at age five when my teacher noticed that I had “absolute pitch”, the ability to identify notes without a reference point. ( So basically if you play multiple notes on the piano, I can identify them without looking at the keys.)

With this God-given talent, I can play any song after hearing it just one or two times. At the age of eight, I began taking piano lessons and then realized that I could sing too. I also began writing my own original songs at a very young age. My love for music just blew threw the roof. I was home-schooled from first grade to eighth grade so I could hone in on my talents.

I decided to try out high school in my freshman year. I realized that it wasn’t for me and, that’s when I really pushed myself academically and musically. I received my high school diploma last year at 16 and I am now enrolled in El Camino Community College. I love college life. I want to pursue a career in music and major in composition. I would like to either be a music professor or film composer.

Recently, I have been writing and producing my original music in my home studio. I have seven original songs that are available to stream on all streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Google Play, e.t.c.) Here is a link to my five-song EP I also have a new original song that will be released on October 18th, 2019. I have been trying my best to promote and market myself, but doing everything independently can be challenging. I am going to continue to pursue my passion because I was born to be a musician

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has been challenging but has been worth the ride. It is hard to be an independent artist because I have to manage all my social media accounts, market myself, and continue to write and produce my original music. I feel like there are so many new artists emerging on the charts every day, and I know that one day I’ll be one of them, but it is so hard to get my foot in the door to the music industry.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I play live at a cafe in my town of San Pedro (Think Cafe) on first and third Saturdays from 5:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. I really enjoy performing in front of people, but I hope that one day I’ll be able to perform in front of a much larger crowd. I am most proud of my ability to write music.

I can pretty much write and produce a song in one day. I write prolifically, and every time I write a new song, it is better than the last. What sets me apart from others is that I can play guitar, piano, sing, write songs, produce my own songs, and mix and master my original music. People also refer to me as the “human jukebox” as I can play any song I hear after hearing it once.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is being able to make a career out of what you are passionate about. So many people go to work hating their jobs and I don’t want to go down that road. My passion is music, so I am going to make a career out of it!
