Meet Marta Recasens, MD of Dr. Marta Recasens’ MediSpa in Glendale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marta Recasens, MD.

Marta, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a Board Certified Ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in Vitreoretinal Disease and surgery. I have been in private practice for the last 17 years in Glendale and Pasadena, California. I have 22 years of experience in surgery and laser treatments for the eyes, including such complex diseases as diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, and macular degeneration.

For the last 4 years, I have been involved in aesthetic laser treatments for the skin of the face and neck. It came about after years of hearing my patients say they wanted to have skin like mine. I truly sensed a need in my patients to turn back the clock in the hope of aging gracefully. I started with the latest technology for reduction of wrinkles, removal of brown spots and acne scars, skin tightening, neck contouring, and treatment of rosacea and red and blue vessels on the face. We have the latest laser in tattoo removal and most recently, I have incorporated body sculpting with a thermal laser called Sculpsure. We also perform Botox and fillers.

What is unique about Marta’s MediSpa is that I personally perform all treatments, I do not delegate to a technician or nurse. I want my patients to entrust their most important asset in my hands, their face, and to be able to put their best face forward. If you ask me my philosophy about how I treat my patients, I will tell you “I treat my patients as I would like my own family members to be treated.”

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The aesthetic business in Southern California is very competitive. There are many medispas in the area and big players in Beverly Hills. I look to offer all services performed personally by me and this is unique in the business. Many aesthetic laser treatments are being performed by nurses or technicians.

The equipment is very expensive, as are the injectables and disposables. I have to be selective in partnering with companies that will back their machines and products.

Finding the right staff and having someone assigned to my web presence and social media has moved my business to the next step!

At Marta’s MediSpa, we specialize in aesthetic lasers for wrinkle reduction, brown spot removal, acne scar reduction, treatment of rosacea, elimination of red and blue vessels of the face, tattoo removal, neck contouring, skin tightening, and body sculpting. We do Botox, injectables and medical grade skin peels.

We have the latest, FDA approved technology and Dr. Recasens, personally, performs all the procedures. That is what sets us apart from other such businesses.

What were you like growing up?
I was always interested in pursuing a career in the medical field. Being a Hispanic, immigrant, and female, I was made to feel I would never make it as a doctor. I was told by our family physician “women should be nurses!” These attitudes drove me more to fulfilling my goals of becoming a medical doctor.

When I went to medical school, my rotation through Ophthalmology opened my mind to the beauty of the inside of the human eye and I was directed to following a career in Ophthalmology. It was still a man’s world. There were few women in the field at the time and I still faced discrimination. Eventually, I persisted and achieved my goals of becoming a medical doctor, an Ophthalmologist, Vitreoretinal Surgeon, and now an aesthetic specialist.

I am still growing up. I am a work in progress as a doctor, mom of a ten-year-old boy and person.
