Meet Marlene Hirshfield of To The Core Coaching & Step Parent Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Hirshfield.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marlene. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was on track to be a Psychologist in college but I got sidetracked by my love for the movies. At that time, that meant moving to Los Angeles, where I worked in entertainment for 17 years. Enter chapter two of my life. I met a man who I fell in love with. That man happened to have children from his previous marriage. I became a STEPMOTHER! Insert screams and shrieks as well. As those of you who have stepchildren know being a step is a very unique and challenging place to be. I’ve learned so much and this experience is what led me back to my original path of working with people to make their lives better. I couldn’t be happier to have found my way to it again. While I have a practice that includes step parenting and parenting, it also includes businesses, entrepreneurs, relationships, mediation, and anything you may need guidance in. I do have a strong focus on parenting. I have a fabulous program I’ve started called Life Skills 101. Contact me if you have a pre-teen or teen at home. My program will help prevent having an unemployed adult child living at home and eating all your food!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Starting your own business is always challenging. You need five clones to get things done. Fewer than five just means it will take longer. Figuring out the focus of your practice takes time as well as navigating the best way to let clients know about you. Consistency and realistic expectations are the keys to the things we want in life. With those in our pocket, success is ours.

To The Core Coaching & Step Parent Solutions – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
What’s special about me is my technique. Traditional coaching is helping the client come to realizations on their own by asking the right questions. I offer a bit more. In my life, I’ve learned too much not to share some helpful insight that may help a client save on some time as well as heartache. I do this while maintaining a sense of humor. Life is too short. Laughing is great medicine. Did you know smiling can make you feel happier? It’s true. My goal is balance for my clients. Balance leads to a happier you.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success means I have the perfect balance of work and family with some me time as well. Here’s the amazing part. That balance means different things to different people. I often think someone leaves our session with a set plan but then they come back with another version of it the next time: One that works better for them. I love the individual aspect of what I do. How another interprets what we talk about to reach their goals is so exciting!

Each step of progress my clients make is true success to me. No matter how small the step may be.
