Meet Mark Mastrandrea and Jeff Cole of IKONICK

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Mastrandrea and Jeff Cole.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It started as a side hustle with my partner (Jeff Cole, the designer) and Me (I handle the business) in late 2016. Jeff and I had worked together for eight years and never really had something that was “ours.”

In March of 2017, we start investing in digital marketing and the company began to take off. We actually worked from 5-8 am and 7 pm+ for the first two million in top-line revenue. As the company grew, we eventually went all in.

Since then, we have partnered with Scooter Braun, Gary Vaynerchuk and got a slew of licenses: Muhammad Ali, NBA, Marilyn Monroe, and Elvis Pressley. We’ve gotten to where we are today through sheer hustle; we are now further expanding our team out.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No; nothing worthwhile ever was. This was our first company that was solely focused on “e-commerce” so in the first few months it was a big shock for us to see how people operated in this space; its very cut throat.

This actually helped us zone in and optimize our core competencies, and separate ourselves. Building a team from scratch always is a challenge; managing people of all different personalities.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Our company focuses on selling affordable art (90-750$) that revolves around motivation/pop culture.

We are known for our unique designs and storytelling; we focus heavily on creating content for social and our YouTube Web Series. Also, we have a ton of licenses (NBA, Ali, Monroe, Elvis). We also are known as the first company to really break through on social media with affordable art…

The thing we are most proud about is the fact that we aren’t really an art company, we are an idea – an idea that hard work and hustle can really pay off. When people look at our art, it evokes an emotion…

What sets us apart in the art space is always evolving from content, design and strategy perspective.

What were you like growing up?
I grew up in East Meadow, a small town in Long Island. I had a very supportive family; my father worked on Wall Street, my mother was a speech pathologist, and my sister was a big student-athlete, a year older than me.

Growing up I was a big soccer player and always prided myself in being able to adapt and hang out with people of all different races/personalities etc. I always pushed the button (Was a bit of a trouble maker) but did well in school and extracurricular activities.

It wasn’t until college (University of Delaware) where I found my passion for hustling (entrepreneurship) I was that guy that always found out a way to make a buck.
