Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Koesterer.
Mark, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Founded in 1972 as Sportsrobe, our big break came in 1979 when Oscar-winning costume designer Dorothy Jeakins tapped Sportsrobe to create custom apparel for the Paramount Pictures’ feature North Dallas Forty. The rest, as they say, is history.
Nearly 100 feature films and one name change later, you’ve seen our work in acclaimed Hollywood blockbusters such as Bull Durham, Jerry Maguire and Ali, period pieces including Hoosiers, Rudy and A League of Their Own and classic comedies like Space Jam, Major League and The Waterboy.
Today, Sports Studio is the world’s leading provider of authentic athletic apparel, actors and action choreography for sports-related feature films, episodic television and commercials.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Clearly, market trends in advertising and Hollywood production have played a part in our story. Beginning with the writers strike in 2018, and a general economic downturn really affected the early days of Sports Studio. The lack of big-budget Hollywood sports films continues to affect our business. Fortunately, the continued use of sports to sell products in the advertising world has benefitted us.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Sports Studio Ventures LLC – what should we know?
Sports Studio is the leader in the re-creation of sports content in Hollywood. meaning we are charged with re-creating sports on camera. Every aspect of the wardrobe, props, casting, and choreography falls under our control.
Our knowledge of sports and our ability to bridge the gap between creative and authentic sports is our specialty. Helping the director make every aspect of the sports content seem real.
One of our proudest projects was the movie 42. A great representation of our world-class capabilities. Over 750 period 1947 wool uniforms, that looked amazing on camera.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My role at Sports Studio, president/CEO is the culmination of many influential people in my life. My love for sports was developed by my father and his willingness to support that passion. My education and years playing college football taught me the value of teamwork, sacrifice, and also how to handle failure and disappointment. Thank you, Coach.
My professional career was forged with several great leaders of people, understanding how to manage people and knowledge of the basic fundamentals of business. Finally, I am blessed to be working with a team of world-class talent. We have folks that do things every day that no one else in the world could do. It’s truly a blessing to be associated with them all.
