Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark bouldoukian.
Mark, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey to becoming a photographer began in 2010 Kousba-Lebanon (Middle East) when I started helping my dad with his own photography business (weddings, engagements, graduation parties, baptisms….) I remember sitting in his shop and editing everyday photos, selling cameras etc… One day my dad decided to give me one of his cameras, I was so excited and always wanted to go out in nature and start taking photos.
I remember falling in love with the process of creating something with the camera. I started showing my landscape photos to my friends and family and they all said you have the eye kid! You should consider doing this as your profession. I think you’ve got a future in it”. After hearing that, it clicked. From that point on, I decided that I wanted to do work with my camera for the rest of my life.
Six years ago, I got married and moved to the States. I was so excited to explore the beautiful landscapes that California has to offer! I started posting photos and highlights of trips on Instagram and was blown away by the positive feedback. At a certain point, companies saw my photos via social media and became interested in working together. For me, this happened after I had well over 45,000 followers on Instagram. I was able to land some great jobs with companies that fit my lifestyle.
Has it been a smooth road?
Landscape photography is very challenging and time-consuming. The struggle of waking up at 3:00 am in the cold winter mornings was not easy but got used to it now and I love it.
The weather and timing is very important sometimes you get a great sunrise/sunset and sometimes you drive for 3-6 hours and you get nothing.
That’s the fun part of being a landscape photographer it’s always challenging and you never know what to expect until you’re at the place at the right time. The results are rewarding at the end.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I teach photography classes and help others now by hosting workshops and showing them how to compose an image and all the tricks and tips on how to use a camera etc…
I also sell prints of my work worldwide.
I’m proud that I turned my hobby/passion into a business and it was a dream for me to reach to this level and start traveling and showing people and inspiring them on how beautiful is our planet.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m gonna be honest I spend more time in the mountains then the city… I love LA in general because of its great restaurants and shopping centers, and of course the people are very nice and there’s so much diversity.
The traffic and pollution are the two main things I’m not used to haha.
