Today we’d like to introduce you to Mark Boonnark.
Mark, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
We started the company in 2008 in response to the 2007 pet food recalls. Andrew had just adopted his dog Maya and was in search for good nutrition for her and I had just lost my dog Biscuit to cancer.
Andrew was only being led to big brands but poor quality foods from friends and family and I had thought I was doing good for my dog by feeding more well-known brands from the large pt chains. Determined to never let this happen to others, we created Healthy Spot to help other pet parents find the highest quality products and services without the need to do hours of research and/or be mislead through the noise of big marketing budgets. We wanted to provide the highest quality products as well as best in class, trusted services.
Nothing brings us more joy than seeing happy and healthy pets benefitting from their new raw food or getting a proper groom. We brought back real customer service for our customers and their pets, and we started to see that organically grow which led to our continued growth and ability to inspire healthy pet lifestyles to more communities.
Has it been a smooth road?
Andrew and I did not really have professional experience in retail or the pet industry so we’ve had to learn quite a bit over the past 10 years. It’s also never a completely smooth road when it comes to running a small business as it’s impossible to predict the future. With that said we have always used our mission and company values to help guide us through any challenges or tough decisions. From the beginning, we have trusted that doing what was right and true to our values would ultimately lead us to success.

We are a pet retail destination that also offers best-in-class dog grooming, dog daycare and community experiences. We pride ourselves on removing the guesswork from your pet’s nutrition by assuring that every stocked product contains premium-quality ingredients and is procured and manufactured safely and ethically. Using a mind, body, and bowl approach, we work to build local pet communities and make every pet as happy and healthy as possible.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What we like best about our city is our diversity. Every community really has its own identity defined by the people, food, and culture, Whatever you are looking for, we not only have but we probably have at a very high level in terms of quality or authenticity.
The other part we love is that there is a unifying love for pets and you can see pets as a true part of the lifestyle here whether it be at the park, beach, or even the local cafe or coffee shop.
The least favorite thing has to be our traffic! I hate to be stuck in the car and so do my dogs!
