Meet Marisa Scott Renfro of The Risa Collection in Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa Scott Renfro.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marisa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My love of fashion began at a young age when I would constantly sketch and create clothing and jewelry while growing up in Laguna Beach, California. Later, I trained as a stylist in New York City before working for brands such as Prada, Michael Kors and Ashley Pittman. All the while, I knew that one day I would like to start a company of my own. The inspiration for Risa came while pursuing one of my other passions: travel. While visiting India, I drew inspiration from the culture and created a design that was stunning but simple, distinctive but uncomplicated, and was something that I could see myself taking from the beach to city, day to night, all in one effortless piece. I decided to build a line taking inspiration from this dress, creating a silhouette that allowed the materials to shine. After months of trial and error to get everything just right, Risa Collection officially launched in 2019.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a long road. The idea for the first collection began in 2106, from there I tested many different ideas from material to new manufacturers until finally in 2019, in all came through and the first collection was debuted.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Risa Collection – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
Design a one size fits all dress, that focuses on clean modern lines. Support high-end fashion at a reasonable price without losing integrity of design and materials. Reflect a sense of relaxed elegance focusing on silhouette and material allowing the simple designs stand on their own. We are known to create simplicity amid all the noise. I am most proud of the wide demographic of Risa customers. The dress is different to everyone that wears it whether you are a young girl on a beach vacation, a working professional in a boardroom meeting or in your 70s at a luncheon. The dress can be want you make it.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am currently working on our next collection and hope the future holds many more Pop Up events and collaborations with other great minds!
