Today we’d like to introduce you to Marisa and Michael Meier.
Marisa Reyes, an L.A. native with Mexican roots, is a lifelong learner, teacher, and world traveler whose curiosity to experience different cultures and adventure has taken her around the globe. She has attained her B.A. in Liberal Studies and a Master’s of Library and Information Science, which has allowed her to be a school, academic, and public librarian since 2010. To bring balance to the mind-body connection, she also teaches Kundalini and Yoga Nidra which takes her students into a deep state of relaxation and recovery.
In addition, she is also a California-certified massage therapist at the Massage School of Pasadena. Her work allows the parasympathetic nervous system of her clients to rest, heal, and recuperate. Her passions include dancing, hiking, hooping, riding her bicycle, creating art, prepping healthy foods, holding space for ceremonial gatherings, and so much more. She is also a Moon Dancer with the Ollintlahuimetztli tradition, in Teotihuacan, Mexico which has played a significant role in her spiritual growth. Her higher purpose is to help people create a connection to themselves and others so that we can all learn and grow with each other, opening up a space for play, celebration, and authenticity.
Michael Meier is a Medical Massage Therapist from Innsbruck, Austria. Growing up in nature and coming from a family of healers, his initiation and training began when he was a child. Treating the root and finding out the cause of the symptoms of his clients is fascinating to him and his what drives him to continuously study the human anatomy. He has nearly two thousand hours of medical massage training, and hundreds of hours more in over 30 other massage modalities.
Beginning in 2006, he has worked in clinics, hospitals, and 5-star resorts throughout Europe. Throughout his travels, he studied to become an Ayurvedic Prakriti analyst in Bangalore, India. His goal is to bring peace and balance to all the people with whom he works. His medical knowledge combined with his intuitive sense makes him a powerful healer. His honesty and playfulness makes him easy to connect to and fun to be around.
In 2013, Michael and Marisa met on their solo travels through Southeast Asia, crossing paths in Cambodia. They journeyed together through Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Bali, and the Philippines. Once Marisa’s trip came to an end, she returned home to teach a library class at Pasadena City College, while Michael continued to Australia to pursue work. Six months later, they reunited in Australia where they started a successful business providing massage and yoga.
They continue their travels to Australia, started a mobile massage services business in Queensland, got engaged, roamed through New Zealand, Myanmar, then India to further study Hatha yoga. They returned to Thailand to study Chi Nei Tsang, a powerful abdominal massage. Eventually, they moved to Los Angeles where they got married and started Purple Lotus Medical Massage and Wellness.
They are both ignited by being in community hosting wellness events including yoga classes, sound healing, and ceremonies. Michael and Marisa both feel strongly called to support people through their healing process with a variety of massage modalities from all over the world so that people can bring their bodies and mind back into balance.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been a few bumps along the road. Owning and running a business with a partner is not the easiest path to take, however, Michael and Marisa are both committed to their weekly men’s team and women’s circle where they have their own support system in learning how to navigate through relationships with themselves and others.
With having a ten-year background as a librarian, the shift in careers for Marisa has been a practice of trusting in the mystery of life and a massive learning process in how to run a business. She is currently in a USC Bridge to Business Success program which is helping in building the foundation and accessing tools necessary to move forward in their endeavors.
Since Michael grew up in Austria and never had any interest in learning English in his youth, marrying an English speaking woman and living in an English speaking country has been quite the transition, in addition to figuring out the visa process. With time, Michael’s English has greatly improved, and they have successfully worked their way through acquiring his visa.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Purple Lotus Medical Massage and Wellness – what should we know?
With over a decade of experience as a licensed medical massage therapist, he has had extensive training and practice in over 30 different massage modalities in Europe and Asia. Michael has had and continues to have great success in helping people treat the root of their problem so that their symptoms are alleviated. Having such an in-depth understanding of how the body works, he has helped many clients avoid surgery. Many people rave about his Indian head massage which is a unique fusion of three different head and neck massage modalities.
Michael was excited to continue his studies of Chi Nei Tsang (CNT) abdominal massage with Marisa in Thailand since he was having digestive health issues and Marisa was experiencing severe menstrual pains. After their training, they both felt such relief that they were so excited to share it with friends and family back home. The results their clients have experienced have included improved digestive, reproductive, and circulatory health, in addition to emotional release.
Marisa studied Thai massage and Tok Sen, a Northern Thai modality that uses the sound vibrations with a special hammer and mallet, while living in Chiang Mai, Thailand. She also trained with Greek therapist Irene Herodotou who is the creator of SETAO, a face lifting and rejuvenating massage. SETAO is a natural and relaxing way of increasing the blood circulation to the face so that it can minimize aging effects.
What sets her apart is the special blend that she has created which incorporates aromatherapy, relaxing Swedish massage, with the SETAO, and ends with the Chi Nei Tsang abdominal massage so that her clients leave totally blissed out. In addition, she has been certified as a vaginal steam facilitator who has helped women conceive and deal with reproductive health issues. She is also training in how to facilitate people through the healing breath work with Celtic Shamanic Priestess, Wahe Guru, owner of the Awareness Center.
In addition to the massage offerings and infrared sauna add-on option, Michael and Marisa love to regularly host wellness events, bringing together a community of beautiful people. Events have included the following:
Gut Health Workshop: Learn how to make Beet Kvass and how CNT can improve our health
Kundalini and Nidra Yoga classes with sound healing
Essential oil parties
Heart Bloom: A Cacao and Cannabis Ceremony
Spirit Quest: A Full Day Retreat with breathwork, yoga, meditation, movement, and chakra exercises
and more to come!
