Today we’d like to introduce you to Mario Guevara.
Mario, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
On September 14th, 2009, my life changed when I was incarcerated for tax evasion and sent away for 18 months. At the time of my incarceration, I was in the worst shape of my life at 200 pounds. While being away, I was given the time to reevaluate my life and make many drastic and positive changes. Eighteen months later, on April 8th, 2011, I was in the best shape I have ever been in and given a second chance at life. After my release, I started working on my new life goal and created MyVirtualTrainers.com, my first health and fitness business idea. My goal was to help as many people as possible become the best version of themselves by creating a mindset that would allow them to do so with my workouts and training.
In 2013, Sean Combs, aka P. Diddy, walked into the small gym I was training out of on Highland and Franklin in Hollywood. He came in to share that he was starting a new company called Revolt TV with new offices directly across the street from where I was training. After our first meeting, I invited P. Diddy to come and train with me, and he began to recommend my personal training to his employees, which helped to grow my clientele significantly. In 2014, I changed my business name to PHLEXX, creating a lifestyle and fitness brand.
Shortly after creating my new company and brand, I met the next person who helped me grow and develop my business. It was 2016 when I first met Karrueche Tran at the Beachwood Stairs in Hollywood. I asked her if she had a trainer and she said no, and I was able to get her to train with me and the rest was history. Meeting Karrueche opened the next door into my celebrity personal training and fitness business. Over the course of four years, I transformed my business to where it is today. I now have my own line of resistance bands, PHLEXX Strength & Toning Bandz, the PHLEXX Supplement Line, recently opened an exclusive personal training facility called the PHLEXX LAB in Hollywood and making some major improvements to PHLEXX Online (virtual training community) with a new website and content coming soon.
I’m stoked for the continued development of PHLEXX Online. PHLEXX Online already offers personalized virtual training to anyone anywhere in the world. With the new plan to drop exclusive workouts only for PHLEXX community, we will continue to grow our community worldwide.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course not. I started this business from scratch and I’m constantly seeking more – that’s the PHLEXX mentality. Not having access to my own private gym to train my clients was my most recent challenge; it seriously stopped me from growing my business as fast as I would have liked.
Enter PHLEXX LAB. It’s honestly a dream come true we just launched two months ago, but I grinded to get here and I have to say I’m not done. I have a new site launching www.phlexx.com, more products, more content, more of a challenge.
Phlexx – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
PHLEXX is a health, wellness, and lifestyle brand. At PHLEXX, we do it all. Personal training, boxing coaching, athlete training, stretch and recovery therapy, nutrition consulting, and online training.
What sets PHLEXX apart is me. I am most known for pushing my clients past their comfort zones.
No, it’s everything, PHLEXX has built a community. The clients, the team, we surround ourselves with good people and a limitless mindset. We all push each other – I want to see my clients thrive in fitness, health, career, and life. We’re really a one-stop-shop for health, wellness, and good vibes.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I am proud of many moments in my career so far. To name a few… being featured on an episode of BET’s Day in the Life with Karrueche Tran as her personal trainer. Being on HBO ringside with Gabriel Rosado as his strength coach at a sold-out Dallas Cowboy’s Stadium. Lastly, I am most proud of opening my own private gym in Hollywood to train my clients and continue to grow my business.
