Today we’d like to introduce you to Marine George.
Marine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After having studied Economics in France – where I am from – and worked in diplomacy, tech, defense and economic development, I decided to pursue my one passion, acting, in 2017.
I’ll always remember the day I resigned from my job in August 2017. I loved all my coworkers and my career was very promising, but I also knew that I need to make this shift and that the more I waited, the harder it would be. So I took my courage in both hands and talked to my manager. He initially thought I was lying to join the competition! But he turned out to be extremely understanding and supportive – so were all my other colleagues, which was an amazing push into my new career.
I then started my acting training: I knew I didn’t know anything and wasn’t really into the “overnight success” dream. Since then, I’ve been fortunate enough to graduate and to be cast is several projects and even a play featured in Cosmopolitan. I also wrote and produced my very own project, a webseries about digital nomads.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Obviously, switching from a classic corporate career to the bumpy road of acting, on a continent, I barely new, has not been easy. Surprisingly enough, I haven’t felt too lonely on the journey, probably because I’m used to traveling and solitude. However, financial security is the first worrying factor. Luckily, I have good previous experiences to fall back onto if need be, but achieving financial sustainability in arts is not easy.
Moreover, I’m now a freelancer, an entrepreneur, and staying motivated and productive ain’t easy: yes, I do regret the days where I had a manager behind my a**! And the competitiveness of the industry can be a stress factor, making you wonder how to differentiate yourself from the crowd. But I now adopted a more relaxed approach: I know what I believe in and what I want to build. And I trust that working hard, being organized and open to meeting new people, will lead me to where I belong. Kind of what worked in my former career!
Let’s talk about business. Tell us about People Who Matter – what should we know?
So… People Who Matter is the name of a production company I created last year for my upcoming webseries, Wanderlost. Having no experience in film production whatsoever, taking on this project hasn’t been easy but I’m very proud of all the work I put, and very excited to show our creations to the world.
Although acting is my main focus, I love creating new stories, and after this first project, I hope to find enough time to carry on with content creation.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My independence and the trust I have in my path are for sure my main drivers. If you overthink the why of everything you do, you drown – just like when you’re on a boat and are paralyzed as to what destination to take. If you just trust that some force is taking you somewhere, things feel so much smoother. Never in my life would I have ever expected for my life to be this way, and yet everything makes so much sense to me. I truly think that knowing who you are, accepting it and working at it is the key to actual personal success. It can sometimes be a lonely drive, though!
